Wasn't sure where to post this so stuck it here.
Has anyone ordered Aruacanas from Murray McMurray hatchery? I'm wondering if their Araucanas are true Araucanas and are rumpless(tail less).

As far as I know, no hatchery has true Araucanas. McMurray has Easter Eggers last I checked, not Araucanas or Ameraucanas. I'm sure someone has gotten EEs from McMurray. They usually send an EE male as the free "exotic" chick.

Here is a MM "araucana" rooster hatched last May--judge for yourself.

Here--in the foreground--are a couple of hens from the same hatch.

Many use the name Araucana a bit too loosely. It is a recognized breed, difficult to find and hatcheries use either Araucana or Americauna meaning Easter Egger=a chicken that tends to lay a blue or green egg.

If you want a bird that meets the breed standard, you need to find a breeder or incubate some shipped eggs. No hatchery has the real deal, they're all easter eggers. Nice enough birds when all you want is the green eggs, but not what the hatcheries represent them as.

If you go to the Araucana Anyone thread on this website, there are quite a few of us true Araucana breeders on there. We sell hatching eggs, day old chicks, started chicks and sometimes adults. They will be more expensive than birds at a hatchery, however they will be the real thing.

Here are a few of mine.

So to get this right.. true Americauna's are rumpless? I sure would be happy to hear that 2 of my girls are defiantly rumpless.

as to their behavior. the little roo I have is aprx 2 - 2 1/2 weeks there is two little hens that are at 4 weeks. and one little hen at 2 /1/2 week. well today I couldn't help myself and bought 6 few day old wyandotte's I put them together thinking that since they are all ready a mix of ages it should be ok. the two older hens one in-particular took to the newby's as if she was a mamma hen but the little Roo keeps pecking the little bitties on the head when they get close to the food. he seams very greedy. I went ahead and put him and one of the big girls in a carrier for he night and tomorrow will put the new little guys in their own box. Is this the right thing to do or should I have left him to bos the little guys and develop a pecking order.?

thanks for the information
blessed be )O(

Thanks. I was just wanting the rumpless gene for a breeding project of mine. So it doesn't matter if the bird is hatchery or show quality.
A fellow in my area said he had a rumpless Araucana bantam from McMurray. I'm well aware of hatchery araucanas being easter eggers, so I was just curious if McMurrays "araucanas" had the rumpless gene in some of their birds.
