I did not have mine vacinated and 2 are dead, 12 are near death, yet the others are acting fine. I got up this morning and found 6 more that where sitting on feet and hocks, and could'nt stand upright. As of 5:00 those 6 won't try to get to food or water

I have w. silkies, partridge rocks,EE's,and Delaware's. Some from each breed have gotten sick.

Yes, my survivors are all ok right now. (with the exception of two with what I think is spraddle leg, I guess they could be effected and just handling it better than the others did.) I lost 10 the first three days, I wasn't aware of this thread until the last day, or that there was so many of us out there. I thought maybe this kind of death rate was common for rare or heritage breeds.

Mine were vacc for Marek's, but not cocci. I lost 4 in the first 24 hours (symptoms NOT similar) and the rest are all growing like weeds. So I dunno... *scratching head* I have an order for May, 25 of all the same breed, and I'm crossing my fingers and hoping they're ok. If they DO have a problem, I would hope by then that they would have it under control.

I got 9 chicks form MM on 3-1 and They are all doing well except for my little Marans chick "Oprah" who has seemingly fallen to this AE illness. She started showing symptoms the day after i got her. Loss of coordination came first, folowed by lethargy and not standing up fully. Now she only takes a few wobbly steps at a time and sleeps nearly all the time. She is still drinking, but not really eating. No one else seems effected yet, but it seems all i can do is cross my fingers. i ordered:
2 cockoo marans
1 banty blue cochin (which seems to be full sized)
2 blue laced red wyandottes
2 EEs

Is it bad that i secretly hope I will come in in the morning to find Oprah has passed on in the night? She just seems so sad

Hi Everyone,
I guess I'm not crazy or a poor chicken keeper.
I received 31 chicks from McMurray on 3/25/08.
14: Silver Laced Wyandottes-
1 - died the next day,
1 - died @ 5 days,
12 - showing signs of Marek's Disease
9: Golden Wyandottes -
8 showing signs of Marek's Disease,
1 - healthy so far
7:Arauacana -
1 showing signs of Marek's Disease,
6 - appear healthy
1: the free exotic was DOA)
I ordered my chicks vaccinated, could this be a tainted batch?
Now my problem is, are the chicks I received from Ideal in trouble? They were all housed together until the ones showing sings of sickness or drunkenness were immediately separated into a different brooder in the same room.
I'm also going to contact my local Ag. Rep. Vet tomorrow. From I looked up this, disease must be reported.
One site I read said that this strain that causes paralysis, is sometimes survivable but rarely. They are eating well ( my own mash concoction with herbs and oils) and drinking as long as they are helped. I'm going on 2 weeks since they started going down. So far my chicks are still alive, some better then others and a couple that are actually looking better but 2 more started showing signs yesterday.

I wish all of mine would die immediately so they wouldnt have to suffer. It is terrible seeing my little yellow one that stumbles around watching the sussex walk. she has this look on her face like "mommy, i wanna do that , too"
