Membrane looks brown peeping and movement has stopped help!

Aww thanks. After holding him in my hand with his shell still half on for 8 hrs until my bum went numb then putting him in a bowl under the heat pad and checking him every half an hour for the next 24 hrs i don't think culling was an option lol. Not unless he was suffering.

(I apologize for staggered responses here, I don't seem to be getting notifications :/ )
You're doing really well. The fact that you were able to save him with such an incredibly difficult hatch, especially after losing the first one, and then go on to rescue a second is phenomenal, and you should be proud of yourself. I can't wait to see what beautiful little ducks they grow into.
Good luck on your next hatch, it amazes me how terrible and tragic this one was, especially after how much you paid for the eggs.. I hope the next one, especially on your meat birds with your goals- Noble goals, especially considering the cruelty done to farmed chickens... Animals should be allowed to lead a good life free of suffering before they're slaughtered.. -goes over so much better.

Ok, no luck getting more ducklings.

What does everyone think about the idea of taking my goose's goslings which are due in about 7 days and brooding them with my ducklings so if I was to lose one the other wouldn't be alone. I've considered taking them and brooding them myself anyway because my goose pen isn't secure to aerial predators (amd is way too big to make so) which we have a lot of but they don't bother the geese. Too big. Goslings however I expect to get eaten promptly. I'm not sure what the right thing to do is.

Also would it be best to finish the eggs in the incubator if that is my plan? I would be anxious I would do something wrong. Although I feel I have figured out the incubator now since the ducklings and also I am very sure that the eggs were not good at all because the other lady that set the same eggs only got three out of 12 and hers weren't even shipped.

Update I just went down to her nest realising from my calendar she is on day 28/29

She was sitting on two eggs a week ago. Well today she only had one egg. No sign of the other anywhere. I assume she must have kicked it out at some point, if so something would have eaten the egg I guess. No way it hatched as they were laid one day apart and the remaining egg has not pipped internally. It was hard to see because the whole egg was full of gosling but after a lot of looking I could see a pulsating area at the edge of the air cell, not broken through but a little pulse.

I put the egg back but am not really sure what to do. One gosling could make a great companion for my ducklings as a safety net. I wouldn't really want to take it from mama though once it's born.

I'm concerned one gosling may not last long in the paddock also i'm concerned the gander could hurt it. He seems protective of the egg, he goes over to the best when she is off eating and fusses with it putting feathers back on etc. Any advice at all would be appreciated.

Having no first-hand experience with ducks or geese, all I can say is you are considering the issues and options that I would be thinking about. I just don't know which way will work out best for you. Sometimes it's a coin flip.:confused: Just know we are cheering for you and the babies.:)

@Miss Lydia ? @Ravynscroft ? thoughts?

Found this post interesting ... ganders may pose a threat to the hatchling perhaps?
