Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

So excited for you!!!! Can't wait to see pics. My Cuckoo Marans and Cochin are the friendliest of all my chicks! For now.
I sure hope they are. This time around will be a little different for me. I won't be here all the time to mother them, I will be working. DH will be the one raising them. He gets to learn the joy of little chicks.

Our first two girls started just by flapping their wings and making little holes when they were only a few days old, the crazy contortions didn't start till after they were a week or two old. I thought it was just adorable and hilarious at the same time.

This is what we are getting, they hatch/ship on Monday the 22nd, just next week!!

(but I got DH hooked on ducks...hehehehehe)

The new 8x12 barn is supposed to be built tomorrow and I plan to finish out the inside on Saturday. That way I can move the girls into their new home. It will be a shock to everyone I'm sure, especially since the new ducklings will be joining them.
Love those breeds, you're 1 week ahead of me. Just a few days away for you! So will you have the ducks in a different place then the chicks when they're older or all together? I have no idea how it works to keep both.

No, probably not. Unfortunately. I live where there are LOTS of houses. I will however keep him until I am absolutely positive. At least until he pretties up and gets his proper SLW coloring, so that he may be easier to re-home. Bummer.
I look forward to seeing pics of him as he matures. I bet he'll be beautiful. Too bad that you can't keep him. We will not be keeping any of our roosters either. Our 1st batch of 13 were all hens, somehow we got lucky. Our next batch in a couple weeks are supposed to be all 9 hens, but I am afraid our luck won't hold the 2nd time around. So we'll be in the same situation.

I'll be sure to post pics when he pretties up a bit.

We have no ordinances that prohibit roosters, even though we live in town. There is, however, nuisance laws that govern noise. My plan is to hopefully be able to keep a rooster eventually, but I will be very particular about which one gets to stay. Only the best behaved and quietest need apply. I know, asking for a miracle, but those are my rooster rules. I don't want some anal neighbor or inspector knocking on my door and giving me grief.

Although the neighbor next door has a teenage grandson that lives with them and he bangs for hours late at night on his drums. Now THAT'S irritating. More so than a few brief moments of cock a doodle doo daily!

Excited, ready for all their fluffy rumps to get here. All of them will be living together in a 8x12 barn now. It was built today, actually only took the guys 3.5 hours to finish it. DH is putting down vinyl tile flooring tomorrow so it will be easier to keep clean- Ducks on one side and chickens on the other. The 4 ducklings in the house are about ready to go outside permanently and the chicks will be inside till they feather out. We will paint it this weekend and do the windows/ventilation.

Only a couple more days!!! Can't wait to see the pics!

I'm finally moving the girls out to the coop tomorrow. They're 6 weeks old today and I think they will be thrilled with all the extra room to spread their wings. I'm going to leave them 'cooped' up in there for about 4 days so they learn that's where they go to sleep and will let them out into the run Friday! Sweet Pea is still barely feathered but I'm going to put the Ecoglow out there if she needs it. The run will be finished today and it's looking so nice. I think they will love it but most importantly it is super safe! We now have 4 turkey vultures living in the area (could be because we've caught 17 raccoons and they have a steady supply of food??) so between the coons, hawks, fox and vultures that was the priority!! It's a shame we can't free range them but I'll give them a steady supply of greens, weeds, bugs etc so hopefully they will be happy.
I'll post pics of their first outing!

Great!! They're gonna love it. We've finished a new brooder box for ours when they arrive the 2nd of May. It will be or inside the house for a week or two and then it will fit inside the coop, so the big girls can see but not get to the babies. I hope they get along.
