Ok, so I do have one EE coming with my order. I think we've done this before, but I'm curious what color eggs you guys get from your EEs. I'm hoping it will calm my anxiety over finding a blue egg layer.

Congrats on the 100! You are going to be so ready when your chicks arrive... your posts sound like you have had chickens for years! This is my 100th post & I had to come to this thread to make it! I have to say that I consider you my "friends" in here - the Meyer's group! Thanks for welcoming me & giving such great advice...as well as enabling me, commiserating, and encouraging me to hit refresh a million times a day on the Meyer's webpage!!!
I still have a little less than 2 months before my little peepers come home, but I know you all will be holding my hand and helping me through the wait!
HUGS!!!!!
Have a wonderful rest of your weekend everyone!
And - POST 100!!!!![]()
That sounds like such a nice day... visiting coops with your son. My first though when you said you went with your son was he must be about 6 yrs old and following behind you wide eyed and enthusiastic ... but 21!! You are so lucky your 21 yr old went with you!! Mine would rather have a root canal LOL. So jealous!! Sigh. Thanks! They were so happy that they did not want to go back into the coop. 10 did go in on their own and then I had to round up the other 12! The last one in was a Delaware, of course! They are so independent. Trying to catch the little ones was a real task. I am so glad no one was filming me! LOL
They are getting big - they will be 9 weeks on Monday. It's funny that they look so big to me, but, I went with my son on a coop tour today in Westport, CT and cannot believe how much bigger they will still get! I will tell you that I went on this tour thinking that I was going to see some elaborate coops at huge homes. Instead, we saw coops that were much simpler and smaller than ours. But, we met a lot of really nice people, who obviously enjoy keeping chickens and sharing their passion with others, and the settings were so serene. It was such a beautiful day to spend with my almost 21-year old son. It just reinforced that this is the lifestyle for me! Obviously, you all agree or you wouldn't be on this site. Thank you all in the "Meyer Hatchery" forum for sharing your enthusiasm!
When your buckeye pops into your head and you start thinking all kinds of crazy things just tell yourself that he's living the good life. And believe it
I ended up taking the Buckeye to the swap this morning. I was standing near the front of the store by the registers waiting for the coordinator to come up and started talking to a teenage girl who wanted to see him, she peeked inside and he flew up onto my arm, a minute later a man walked in, asked what I had and said he'd take him. I didn't even make it into the swap! I guess its a good thing as I only had an hour and a half that I could be there (crazy busy weekend with family). But honestly I was kinda in shock for the rest of the day, it's like okay...
The teenager immediately asked him what he was going to do with him, he said he was going to put him with his hens and said "I'm not going to eat him, I've got white birds for eating". So that little roo is either in for a great life with his own harem or perhaps a rude awakening when he tries to boss hens four times his size. Hopefully they put him in check quickly and teach him some manners. I wish I had asked the guy more questions, but he didn't seem like the type to wax poetically about his flock. I totally cried on the way home even though I know our flock will be more peaceful without him, the brooder is so much more quiet tonight. I feel guilty I couldn't provide him a good home and anxious that I don't know what kind of environment he is in. Still I wish him a happy life with the hens.

Thanks! I think raising parrots helps a little, but I definitely want to be as prepared as possible! I'm an RN, so I'm pretty analytical when it comes to things. But I'm very glad that I found this forum. It is interesting what you were saying about the color eggs your EE lay. So they aren't guaranteed to lay blue/green eggs then. That's really good to know! I was considering getting one if i couldn't get a cream legbar or BAM. I'm not going to since the only reason was to appease my son's request for a blue egg layer. Even if I have to get one locally from a breeder...I will hold out. I have a couple of leads from craigslist that I will follow up on after I we pick up our chicks from Meyers...still hoping for a miracle!Congrats on the 100! Right back atcha!
Thanks!!! Hugs to you too!!!Congrats! And, Ditto!
Nope, no guarantee. Just very likely. I remember, not sure who, said even the Olive Eggers have a chance of laying a non green/olive egg. That surprised me but I guess since they're mutts you just never know. Thanks! I think raising parrots helps a little, but I definitely want to be as prepared as possible!
