Meyers, tracking and blizzard, oh my!

Ok, these chicks are gonna be stressed and maybe chilled when they arrive
Get the smallest bottle of bovidr labs poultry nutri-drench and give the chick one drop only by mouth. Needy chicks, repeat every 8-10 hours until perky. Put 1/2 teaspoon in a quart of water for the first two weeks to get them to a strong start. Use it instead of electrolytes

I have nutri-drench on hand along with sav-a-chick electrolytes and probiotic. (nervous first timer here can you tell

) I plan on putting the sav-a-chick in a quart of water. Does 1/8 teaspoon per quart sound like a correct dosage? I'm going to check my chicks and any really lethargic or weak looking chick I will give a drop of nutri-drench and get them under the warmer asap. Is there any issue doing it this way? Meaning if I give nutri-drench to the sick ones and then they drink the water with the sav-a-chick is that too much? Thanks for your help.

It could be that Meyer did not ship the chicks right away because of the weather forecast, but I don't know. Polk, Ohio is where they are located. Follow the mixing instructions on the SaveAChick. Use the Poultry Nutridrench or the other, don't use both. I would use them for 2 days, and if they seem okay, then stop. But make sure to dip their beaks in the water and sprinkle a few crumbles around their feet on clean paper towel to teach them to peck at food. Let us know when they arrive, and food luck.

Don't fret to much. It's very common to have the tracking order not updated for hours, in fact my shipment from my pet chicken (who does things very similar as Myers and cackle) updated only three times before they arrived. In my case the package label was made on arrival and showed it was sent back out less than a hour later even though it took 15 hours to update to that status. They put priority on getting the chicks shipped quickly and safely over updating the tracking so many times it's behind by a bit. Three of the four places they stopped at were quickly in and quickly back out excapet one post office. So most take great care of them :)

Also my chicks were hatched Monday during the afternoon and sent to the post office but they didn't get a chance to email me until almost 5pm, so I didn't get a update until late late that night. They mentioned they wanted to make sure everyone's little babies got out on time and then they'd do emails and updates, same for the post offices.

Ok, Thanks. Ill guess I just see how they are when they arrive. If they are just a bit tired and stressed Ill just dip the beaks in the sav-a-chick water and warm them up. If they are really looking bad Ill use the nutri-drench. I'm going to fill my feeder and also sprinkle crumbles all around the MHP and the paper towels of the brooder. So no excuse for not eating

Merrymouse & Twigcrafter keep us posted when they arrive! I'd love to see them.
Our 16 arrived all in good health and we didn't need to do anything extra for them. They did get the sav a chick mix (probiotics and electrolytes) for the first three days and then we stopped and they're all doing great. So there's always hope :)
Good luck, keep us posted!

My new babies made it through the snow storm and arrived from Florida to south east Wisconsin this morning without any problems. They were shipped with heating pads and grow gel. All 17 made it in great shape. I personally swear by Merricks vitamins and electrolytes, which they got in their water when they got here. Now they've ate and drank, and are taking a little nap in my incubator/hatcher. I've been busy with work, so I haven't got my brooder set up yet. 17 autosexing 55 flowery hens.

Just a FYI, Meyer hatchery and My pet chicken are basically one and the same. If you do a little research, you will find that mpc does not have chicks on site. You'll notice that you cannot pick up chicks at their location. Everything they sell ships out of meyer.

Just another bit of information, I am cautious about getting anything shipped that goes through St Louis, I've seen and heard a lot of horror stories about packages of chicks getting misplaced, delayed, and roughed up pretty bad when the shipping takes them through St Louis. My chicks just came from Florida and they arrived in Wisconsin in just a little over 24 hours.

I know my pet chicken and Myers work hand in hand. MPC does have their own hatcheries but they are not at the same site as their 'head quarters' who handle all the orders, billing, emails, etc...that's one of the reasons they don't do at in House pick up. The reason Myers work with them is because they have the same standards of quality and shipping. I contacted both places before purchasing and got a lot of references from other people on BYC to see how their experiences went with both. We only went with MPC because Myers only carried about half of the breeds I wanted, and no one locally carried them either. Our 16 came in the mail less than 30 days old and we're healthy and are doing great 2 weeks later.
