Do you have any cats? I think that would be the best method of control, I got my 2 as kittens and raised them around baby chickens so they know not to eat them, they've done great, hope this helps.

I have heard (and tried) that mice don't like peppermint oil...... I once had a classroom that had an infested cupboard that no-one had bothered to try and clean. I cleaned all the droppings and mice out and then put lots of drops of peppermint oil onto the shelves..... I was at that school for another 6 months and had no little visitors in that time. The school was in a rural location with wheat farms all around... Worth a try!

Good Luck!

I just googled mice and peppermint oil and there is info available... a few drops on cotton wall balls placed around the home is what people are recommending.

Go to home depot and get a few "predator" mouse traps. They work like the other will not. Then get a black a decker sound thing that is audible to YOUR ears and set it on high IF you have a basement, other wise forget it as it will drive YOU nuts.

DO poison. Set the poison in your bathroom under the sink. They love this place. Set poison in any thing your other animal can not get to, you will see the evidence that they have been there.

I just got done with the "BLITZ" with the mice and I still have a few babies running and being trapped, they are the hardest.

Lastly CHECK for ANY holes to the outside. We found one that we thought NO mouse would even attempt to enter through. Well, it turned out to be their primary mode of entering the house.

For some reason, even the mice know it is going to be a killer (pun intended) winter and they are scampering to anything that has food and warmth. If you have cats turn them lose on your barns, the mice migrate from there to your house.

I truely HATE meeces to peeces.

I adore cats, but unfortunately my top dog also loves them (with a side of fries)...also I'm pretty allergic :-(
I love the peppermint oil idea!

I heard scritching during the day at on point, and asked, "When do they SLEEP?"
BF just looked at me with a total deadpan and replied, "Evil never sleeps."

Body count: 8

Well, one thing I will tell you, DON'T bother with the peanut butter balls !!! Some folks have said these work great ! Well, my mice must have peanut butter allergies ! Not a ONE of them has ever been touched ! After about 3 months ! The idea was to take peanut butter, plaster of paris and olive oil, mix well, roll into balls and hand out the treats ! Yeah, right. Idea being that when they eat them they will go to water and the plaster of paris will harden in their tummies.
Good luck !! I do like those plastic snappy traps...look like big clothes pins...you push down on one end to set it and it locks into place. Caught a few with them.
By the way...know WHY that grey rat snake is sooooo big ?? Guess !

Sounds like you don't want to use poison but since someone else suggested it - definitely DON'T use poison, dogs can eat the poison OR the poisoned mice and die a horrible death (bleeding slowly internally). You cannot keep the poison away from the dogs unless you can keep mice away from the dogs. If you could do that you wouldn't have this problem!

I've never had a mouse problem as bad as yours but as much as I hate killing them I use the spring loaded traps. Also, you need to find out how they are getting in and try to seal all of the entrance points.

If you can afford it I would enlist professional help!

You're right, I'm poison-phobic for a good reason! Freshman year, my roomates and I lived in a rental house in a lousy neighborhood. One day I found our dogs outside playing with a dead rat. I threw it away and thought nothing of it, til the next day when both dogs started spewing blood from both ends.
Both gals came through it just fine, but poison is forbidden anywhere I live :p
I hate killing them too, cobrien, I had mice and rats always as a kid and they are very fondly remembered pets, but the wild thieves have to go!

I think I got almost all the mice, the body count is up to 11, and I've only heard one tiny scurry in the walls today. I must sound like I live in a shack

I don't, I promise! Where we are is so far out in the woods though, critters are inevitable.

There's a pic of our place, it's old, it's creaky, but I love it

I just wish I'd found it sooner in my college career, I could've saved a lot of money and bad-housing heartache.
