Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Just had to put down our 14 yr old dog. He wasn't feel well this week, so took him to vet. He didn't come back home. Dakota had a large tumor that was inoperable. He will be missed. Dakota was an awesome dog with a quirky personality. He would sit and talk to us. RIP my good friend.

Tap-- how are things now? Saying a prayer for Your Strength & DH's recovery.

About the bobcat, I think that's pretty cool. About shooting it, did I ever tell y'all about the mama fox and her 3 kits in my ditch last spring? I will tell you, I talked to the DNR Sgt and you do not want to ever harm a Protected Species. Fox are Protected, so my best guess is that bobcat are as well. **Hide** your chickens! (sang in my best Antoine Dodson voice)

Thanks, Dh is doing good, super sore throat - they work on the neck disc's through the front. I asked him what was worse, having the flu this winter or the surgery. He said the flu was much worse.

He sent me home after 12 hours and said he was just going to sleep and watch tv. He should be home tomorrow morning.

There is a season for fox, coyote and bobcat. I don't know about the bobcat but if a fox, coyote or raccoon is after your animals you are allowed to shoot it, in season or out.
Easy........cheat.

After being held upside down with their keel bone pointing up a chicken becomes quite calm. Then while holding them by their feet, lay the bird's head and neck on the ground. Place a broom handle or piece of 1x2 across the bird's neck. Stand on both ends then pull upward.

Great idea, I really want one of those dispatchers they sell in England. I just haven't found one around here.

I've probly messed up my quote, but that is great news on your DH.
DS reported to me that his buddy told him the way they do chickens at their house is a tree stump that has a perfect little divet (sp?) and the ax, then I guess there's another method where you nail into a board just so. Me, I like the killing cone that I saw on YouTube, not that I have used it yet.

Oh yes, you are right on the hunting season. If I remember correctly, fox season starts in October. I asked the Sgt about what if the fox is going after my poultry and he was very clear, if I were to take that fox out of season, I'd be prosecuted. So I left it and kept the dogs out as much as possible and had zero problems. She and her young moved on. I hope the same for the bobcat.

So many of our MI group have been having a tough time lately. Please keep them in your thoughts and offer whatever encouragement that you can. A kind word is priceless.

Tap, Silly, Opa, RaZ, Chickflick, Kimmie.....to everyone my best wishes and prayerful thoughts go out to all of you. Each one is facing a different trial, but every trial is just as hard as the next.
My guess is there are many more out there who haven't shared their own woes....to all of you this is a great group to vent to (sorry about the hanging participle...spelling ain't so great either); everyone is very supportive. I've never encountered a greater group of kind people!

Opa, sorry about your hen.

Prayers that all will go well for your DH.
Good luck Silly!
Sure, just one thing, I don't usually drive very far so you will have to come pick me up.
I do keep a close eye on Tucker and my other little dog, Pip. Tucker is so little that a hawk or an Owl would think he's a rabbit.

My FIL was able to get a decent picture of the bobcat. He called us and told us about it and said it was heading our way. Otherwise we probably never would have seen it. I don't understand what's going on, this photo loaded in the sponsors area?? I could not get it to change

Lucky you, its beautiful. Was it as big as it looks in the picture? A friend has a pet Bobcat, but its much smaller than this one looks.
Silly, I hope you've got your illness problem with the chicks beat. I don't think its a good idea to offer unmedicated sources of water to them, though. They might not get enough of the medicine to work.
