Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Guess what? I got another civil ticket dated July 01, 2013. All it says is "Animal Viol" signed by the ordinance Nazi.
My "ARR/PRETRIAL" is Wednesday July 31, 2013.

So to the wonderful people who took my chickens to new homes, would you please send me an e-mail or PM of when you re-homed my chickens.

Thank you.

Snowflake... If you can staple chicken wire up, to keep them separate... I have had mama's fight through the chicken wire because they were too close though. I usually put up a cardboard divider so they're not seeing each other. My most viscious momma for sure was Sheh-Sheh... She would attack everything and anything that got near her babies. This does include going for my face. She was a great mom. LOL

Anyway, if you have to put them together in the same space, try and rig it so they aren't MIXING.
thanks Nova that gives me an idea, I think I can make it work, Good job for tomorrow

those are interesting breeds, have you tried the SPPA? I know there are a few with Orloffs, not sure about the other breeds....good luck

Such a pretty Aussie!

Happy 4th of July Everyone.

RaZ-- so sorry to hear the latest. :(
... But, I was thinking of you today, and wanted to pick your brain. #1: Last week I found 5 really tall Clematis plants for just $3.50. Is it horrible to plant them now? Or treat as regular perrenials& keep watered?
#2: do you know what this is? And why is my 5'+ tall Milkweed "sweating and greasy"?

I currently have a new flock of Russian Orloffs, and will be getting some pairs of Appenzeller Spitzhauben, and Black Sumatra. Also getting some Polish bantam for ornamental. I would like to get BLR Wyandottes, and 2 or 3 Sillican buttercup just for fun.
I have 2 young Appenzeller Spitzhauben That I got from Meyer. Do you know anyone in Michigan that breeds them? I love the look of the polish but wanted a breed that was able to see. So far so good.

The quiet sure is nice this morning. The the easy availability of fireworks this year's 4th was extremely noisy. I sure would like to have the money that was expended just in this area. I'd bet it was more than a few dollars.

I have my garden to the point that just a few minutes each day is keeping it totally weed free. Too bad I can't say the same thing about the rest of the yard. I sprayed it with a weed killer but I am highly disappointed with the results. I suppose that this fall I will need to apply a granulated weed and feed and hope that next year's lawn looks better.

Sometime in the next day or two when wind conditions are right I will spray the apple trees again. So far it is looking like I will have a bumper crop of apples. They certainly will be put to good use. A lot will be peeled, sliced, treated with Fruit Fresh, drained, and then frozen. Others will go into applesauce and still others into apple butter and finally the windfalls will be pressed for cider.

One hint for those with a small orchard that are wanting to maintain the health of your trees; remove the apples that I sure now litter the ground underneath them. Most apple trees are self thinning and drop quite a few apples before the crop is finally set. I used to rake them up since they decaying under the trees can lead to the introduction of disease. I now found the it is much easier to use my leave blower. As long as the grass under the trees is reasonably short it doesn't take long to roll them out and away. With where my trees are located it's just a matter of blowing them across the driveway and into a pile that's easily picked up.
