Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I can't rembr who posted last week what do do with your littles in case of power outage and luckily I have not had to deal with that. But right now someone is dealing with it, with 2 day old ducklings. (They 're aiming for 90-95'F Brooder Temp) Can any of you offer suggestions to this poster please? https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/877701/power-outage-two-day-old-ducklings#post_13336869

What about those hot patches you put on sore muscles, the large ones... You find them in the pharmacy section of most grocery stores. I've used those to transport new chicks in the dead of winter. I put them under some padding in the box because they can actually get quite hot.

ETA: went and posted this over on the actual thread *sheepish*

Broody hen question.

How long is TOO long for her to not get off her nest of eggs & "take care of (REALLY big, STINKY) business" ???

Here's a few pix...she had just gotten back on the nest in the 2nd pic after a 20 min, eat, drink, poop, power dust bath. When she's fully settled all eggs fully covered....;)

My BO broody gets off the nest once a day to run outside and take a "power dust bath". It seems to mean more to her than eating and drinking.

So... I'm getting really angry. I'm stapling up some chicken wire to the grow-out pen in my coop and my stupid stapler does not work unless it only has 4-6 staples in it. That is maddening to have to reload every few staples and that's if they fire properly. When I was in college, we had to build our own canvases for every new painting and we had school issued staple guns that were Swingline and the supply store sold the required staples. It was easy, it worked and I loved my Swingline stapler. I still have it in fact but the staples are hard to find. So rather than struggle with locating staples every time I moved to a new town, I thought I'd buy a brand new Arrow stapler and matching Arrow staples. THEY SUCK. When I put a chunk of staples in, the spring loader glides right over them rather than pushing them towards the opening like it should. *sigh* It's taking me twice as long to do this job than it should.

Also, anyone getting mail from businesses that are finding you through localhens.com? I got an ad today addressed to Hudson Hobby Farms and that's the only place I've registered that name. Kind of annoying.

I have a new addition to my flock! I have a gorgeous new bcm cockerel I picked up from Wynette today (nothing like spending 6 hours in the car for a rooster!).

In bad news I came home to a pullet who can't use one of her legs. She hops around on her working leg but I'm totally perplexed. Ugh.

Ah..congrats on your new boy :D & sorry about your little girl :(

My broody, Maia; got her from Wynette at CS last year. Hoping Maia is a good mama & gets me some OEs (BCM eggs under her are from Lela, who I also got from Wynette last year!)
