Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Ha! I gave my chickens a mouse once and they looked at it and then walked away. They think that's the barn cats' job apparently.

Maybe this little guy will be up to the task of second roo. The only BCM to hatch and I'm pretty sure that's a boy.

Looks a boy to me! If not I have those chicks I'm growing out from the man in Muskegon!

I like your incubator! Good luck!

Totally not chicken related.... I have lots of boys clothes sizes 2,3 and 4. If anyone is interested come and get them! You can buy chicks while you're here too.;)

Where are you located? I have a little boy that's growing way too fast.

When will I be able to sex my silkie? She/he is 9 weeks and barely has a comb or wattle. I've heard you might have to wait until 20 weeks; but even then, how will I know?

Would someone be kind enough to pm this answer......

This is our second year raising chicks. I forgot how old, or the temp it needs to be outside, before I can move them to their own outdoor coop.

The chicks are about 5 to 6 weeks old and seem fully feathered. They are 1 barred rock, 1silver laced wyandotte and 1 leghorn.

We live 5 miles from lake michigan just north of Muskegon. It is still getting into the upper 30's at night.

The chicks are getting big but I don't want to put them outside to freeze.

Thanks for the help. Please pm me.

Not a silkie expert BUT when the ones I currently have were about 3 months some had noticeable larger combs and those ended up being the cockerels. But yeah. Unless they're crowing it's hard to tell. SOMETIMES you can tell by their crests (boys will have "streamers" while girls will have more uniform/rounded crests) but the boys can be sneaky.

I'm in Zeeland and mine have been out at night for weeks. I have them in a pen, and they all march into a dog crate that I put inside the barn at night, so they are nice and warm. It's pretty funny as I have a second group of 5 week olds I just put out last night and they march into their carrier now, too (they are in a separate pen for now).

I have too many chicks! I have a few month old Bielefelders available. They are an autosexing breed. $40 a pair. Straight run SFH 1month old for $10.
