Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

TSC is open until midnight...or have you gotten yet another job?
Head Light...one of the best tools I own, use it every night when locking up the coop.

Candled all 8 broody eggs last night...all are still alive!
The store closes at 9:00, but work continues after that to get things ready for the next day. Also it seems that no one at this store knows how to care for chicks so it has been falling to me to care for them properly. I'm not happy with the way they are being cared for and came very close to quitting in protest.

I have/had a headlamp. Just can't find it. So I use a hand held and park the Jeep with the headlights aimed at the door.

I understood about the shirt Raz, don't expect you to cover that! Send me a link! How much for the bat box?
I'll get you the link tonight and PM it. You can also look at my FB page. It's there somewhere.

I generally do my chores after dark too. Even in the summer time. I kinda like being out when things are quite and after the mosquitoes had their evening feasts.
I don't usually mind but I've been coming home exhausted. Have also had a couple of falls on the uneven, root bound ground.

We finally got the foundation for the new shop poured yesterday and they are finishing it up today. It will be a few more weeks before they can pour the wall and few more till we can start building it. I have to admit, even though I can do all the work, it's kinda nice not having to do it, and still get it done.
Sounds familiar. In fact, I'm still working on mine.

I am glad to hear Wendy B may have an opportunity to play a role. I wonder if they never offered the opportunity because they didn't think the RTF council would stick around. Either way, I'm glad it's a step in the right direction for us little guys!
We were a minor annoyance to them at first. MDARD Director tried to bully us, we persisted. MiFB tried to bully us, we persisted. MTA tried to bully us, we persisted. There are new people at MDARD now and on some of the GAAMP committees. The old people were beholden to Big Farm Interests ans acted accordingly. The new people are open to progress.

I live about a half mile from Dalton Twp Townhall. I went there yesterday to register my new puppy. They are all a bunch of nice people I guess. Yeah what's happening to Hidden Creek could happen to me if neighbors complained. There are quite a few farms next to me as well. Everyone knows the risks of living near other people, lol. Anyway, mayflies in the Soo...I remember them well covering the sides of ships and buildings! My place is a bird sanctuary. Indigo Buntings, Orioles, Grossbeaks, Cardinals, Pilated, Bluebirds, hummers, Jays, titmouse, chickadees, and swallows in the barn to name a few! Yeah we feed them. I go through bags of oranges for the orioles. Man it's wet out there. I tried getting to my wood chip pile with the Kubotas and buried in the mud. Thankfully 4wd and using the FEL to back out worked. Next chip pile will be in a better place! Well everyone have a great day. I don't get on here enough but there's so much to do.

Lots of the same birds around here. The hummingbirds seemed to be absent until just the other day. Then a busload were dropped off! Dozens of them are hitting the feeders hard. I also have pheasant just to the east of me and sand hill cranes to the southwest. I spot the bald eagle about once a week/10 days. So far he hasn't noticed the chickens. There has been an abundance of turkey vultures around too. I don't think I'll feed them though.

I wish my friend would give my bird book back, I need to ID a few.

my future in laws got me a hat with LED light in the brim. works great as it puts light right where you need it to see. I still would like more light if I'm doing something like dusting hens after dark, but for most things just getting around in the dark its enough to get stuff done. Think they got it at Cabela's.

Think that I'm going to have to put a chicken down soon. One of my original girls, a BSL, has been acting off for over a week. kinda droopy, not moving around much, and just looking lethargic. Had to clean off a large buildup of poop off of her on Sunday. Seems to have pooped since then, but doesn't seem all that steady lately. Also have noticed that she's roosting on a low step up roost right now. Not exactly sure that she's seeing all too well either. She's 5 years old and would have already been one of the candidates to cull if I didn't have enough room in the coop for 20 chickens next winter.
