Hi All!!
All of my chickens were out today also. They enjoyed being able to scratch around on some dirt for a change. Our little silkie babes are about half grown now and still doing well. The ones we got from Vicki are doing fine also. They all sleep together now.
Spent most of the day picking up all the limbs all over the yard. Now the wind is picking up and will no doubt give us some more.
The flood in Ionia is really bad this year. The whole fair grounds is under water. More snow coming in now.
Sorry to hear about the problems with the relatives. I will pray for you also. God willing, things will work out. We have had our share with relatives, been hurt a lot. I just keep praying for them and hoping for the best.
Hope you all have a really wonderful New Year, full of joy and happiness. Peace to you all!!! Myrna

Just looked outside, it's not going to be a good morning. Hope had to be at work at 4am so I got up at 3 to see if see would like me to take her. I worry about her driving when the weather is bad. She declined, left for work, and now I can't get back to sleep. Made the mistake of looking outside. Nasty, wind blowing, snow coming down hard, about 4 inches now; it definitely is shaping up for a nasty morning. I know that I am certainly looking forward to spring. It's not a good idea to start doing that this early in the winter, but I am already tired of it. When I was younger I really enjoyed all of the winter activities, but now the only one that even sounds remotely appealing is snuggling in front of the fireplace.

Same old story-Roads have ice under the snow. A little slick. Forgot to put my truck in 4 wheel drive so my hindend fish tailed a bit.
Received a bunch of seed and nursery catologs yesterday. I could just throttle the jerks who send out those catologs with the perfect sun riped tomato ozzing goodness, the lush vegetables just waiting to jump in a pot of soup, the colorful flowers begging honey bees to come pollinate them, etc etc etc...
Yep, hate winter.

We drove back from my sister's home last night. We headed out at 11:30 and what should have taken an hour and 15 minutes turned into 2 and a half hours. We couldn't even see the road for a lot of the drive. that was hours ago, I am sure they have been out scraping the roads and throwing dirt by now, Opa.

YIKES! these posts make me thankful for my husband to have time off of work. he is out in the backyard hunting with a young man from church.

the cool thing is, the young man ASKED my DH to mentor him. he said that he loved us and needed a man to be his friend and guide him a bit. wow. how neat is that? we are doing our best, and it's easy as we love him and his family.

they are coming over for goose dinner soon...which i am trading a goose for some chickens here in a few days with another BYC'er.

well, stay safe and warm all...going to feed/water/collect/chit chat etc with the chickens/turkeys/ducks etc...

Miss-Jayne, just read your post and your husband sounds like the kind of man that this world needs a lot more of. To many young men in this country are sorely lacking from a guiding influence in the lives. Without that they never learn responsibility, the value of sharing, and that it isn't all about them. They grow up to continue the long line of irresponsible fathers. While I am to far away, and Rick might not like being hugged by an old man, he still deserves one. Hug him for me.

just gave him a big squeeze from you, Opa! he was a little teary eyed, but don't tell that i told!

his grandpa took him everywhere and taught him so much...hunting, fishing, camping etc. his grandpa passed right after we were married and he still misses him sorely.

the young man he was with just left and they had a blast, even if they were practically iced over when they came in. the young man's dad is great, he is a fireman, his mom is a wonderful woman and there are two brothers, one married, one 14. all sweet.

the young man just has no one his own age at church and not a big circle of friends. he needed a buddy, one that was on the straight and narrow. that's my Rick.

it is sad that young men no longer have direction. i thank God everyday that my husband is a God fearing man, a loving husband (he takes that 'treat her like the bride of Christ' thing VERY seriously) and a father that is firm but kind.

We got a bunch of seed catalogs too. I was so excited to see the big pile on the table. We dug right in and started to plan out the garden row by row. We doubled the size of the garden (now 2500 square feet) for this coming spring so we have lots of room to grow everything we want! I'm glad we measured it this fall.....way too cold out now!

we got some seed cat's too...cannot wait to get the gardens going this year.
supposedly, DH is going to landscape all around the chicken and duck runs for herbs, berries, fruit trees etc. how exciting!

hurry up, Spring! (only two more hard months to go! wooooohooooo!)

Well it was 5 degrees here this morning and by noon had freezing blowing snow. I really have to think again about moving to a warmer place. Anyone have any idea's where I can move that has no poisionous snakes or gators or griz bears (seeing as any where I go the black bears follow I would not want to go where griz live).

Oh ya no winter or very mild winters are needed. I love the UP it is the best but the cold is getting to be too much for my fibro and nerve damage and seeing as old aurther won't leave me alone, guess I better mention him as well.

Happy New Year to ya all. Here is to a great one.
