Opa,

My mom had a great time. She was clueless. When we got to the Wharton Center, we passed the Grease sign who was playing what part and she made the comment: Grease is coming in March. It wasn't till we were waiting outside the door waiting to get in to our seats that she saw a table that had Grease t-shirts for sale. Then the light bulb went on and she got very excited.

The show was great. Danny was about the same size as Sandy...hard to get use to...I am use to John Travolta (sp?) big and masculine!

I shoveled the concrete last night and there was more than last night to shovel. Jon got the driveway plowed along with several neighbors. It surely is cold out there!

Rachel had one of her pullets dead when she went out to do chores. It had a messed up neck and leg for a few weeks. Surprised it lived this long. I am figuring that it flew into the wall.

Glad that you and your mom are getting a break from each other. Everyone needs that once in a while!

Keep warm everyone and brace yourself for the next storm coming soon!

We have a huge family Christmas party on Saturday with family coming from the north (Alpena) and the south (Virginia) so I hope the roads will be good. Expecting around 60-65 people. Almost 1/2 are kids age 14 and under...and one set of twins that will be into everything this year!

Hi All!!!
Glad to see more new ones like me. I agree that everyone has been so nice. And Vicki those little silkies I got from you are doing great and they realize who the person with the goodies are!! Now all the chickens flock to me when they see me walk out there.
All the rest of our feathered friends are doing alright. We haven't lost any more. We put a light a little ways above our water dishes and it works so that it doesn't freeze.
We have one little bantum hen that has 7 young ones about half grown. For some reason most of them are quite tame and I can pick them up and fuss with them. Cute little fellas.
I am ringing the bells for Salvation Army and actually enjoying it. Except for the bitter cold days. The best part is watching the children putting the coins in or reminding Mom that she promised to give them money. They are so cute!!! Most people have been really good and donated for the county. We are blessed with that.
Got our tree up finally. It was so good to see it all lit up and get decorations around the house.
The snow is truly beautiful, but I am just too old to want to deal with a lot of it any more. Or I think I am. Have a wonderful day and take care in the snow!!!! Myrna

Today certainly was a good day. Shot a big doe this morning and another this evening. For a change they were between my stand and the truck. Both dropped where they stood, so no tracking and only about a 150 yard drag. If I get to heaven I intend to shake hands with the inventor of the plastic tobaggon. My welsummers have gone on strike, no eggs for the last two weeks but at least the other 17 are giving me 9-10 eggs a day. I sure am not looking forward to tomorrow if the weatherman is right. No sane person would want that much snow. Hope you all get through it okay.

We're between Hart & Ludington-- luckily they gave-up the "School wars" (the whole "we're not closing till they do" nonsence) for the sake of safety-- ( a 1st!) It only just started snowing an hour ago-- but can barely see out!

Gave my Gals extra rations "just in case" last night--100 feet is a long trek in knee deep snow when you have a disability!

I'm in the lower thumb, and it's blasting here this morning. It looks like one of those old movies where people are lost in a snowstorm...that kind of blustery cold snow. It's not even coming down from above...it's being blown horizontally. I can't wait to go to the barn and feed the horses and see how much snow I have inside! Those hundred year old barns just don't do much good against the wind. My chickens are in a huge block building that's very secure and windproof, so I know they're nice and cozy this morning. Hope everyone has a wonderful day...looks to be one of those "sit by the fire with a cup of hot chocolate" kind of days.

As of 9am in Fowlerville we have just over 6 inches of snow.

Kids are upset that we are still going to have school today. They all made it outside to play and do chores. They are enjoying hot cocoa right now.

I've shoveled twice and hubby has plowed the neighborhood out with one of the other neighbors. My vans tracks were covered in a little over a hour. I leave at 6am to exersice with my neighbor and get back around 7:30am. Hard time seeing! Had a couple inches of snow at 6am!

We will be busy plowing with our huge party here tomorrow, expecting 60 or so. I made each family (17) a jar of raspberry jam. I found raspberries in the freezer from my grandma and grandpa's patch from 3 years ago.(they are still ok I ate the extras!) I got jam jars from my dad who had all of Grandma's jars. So it is the whole sentamental thing remembering Grandma and Grandpa Heeg this year since they passed away this past year.

It will be nice seeing everyone. The last 3 times I have seen everyone has been at funerals. (Grandpa, Grandma, and baby Carter-my cousins baby-SIDS)

Have a great weekend everyone!
Sarah

Well the kids LOVE the snow and the early start to their vacation, but the chickens are not happy! They are not loving being stuck in the coops. It is way too windy to shovel a path for them today, I guess they will have to stay in and lay some eggs.

How wonderful, Sarah. I hope you have a great party, and be careful handling all that snow!

Sarah, were your grandparents the Heegs that lived on Mason Rd? I built a house for my parents across the street back in 1985. They had a raspberry patch the best I remember. My folks sold the house and moved to Kentucky and the family that bought their house burnt it down when they tried to deep fry a turkey on the deck on Superbowl Sunday. I've shoveled twice to check on the chickens and to get to my shop. Last time there were places where it's at least 10 inches.

wow...the snow is awesome! it's so beautiful and clean looking!

one of my chicken wranglers dug out my gates and doors at the coops! DH told James that he needed to help mommy today. He saw me put my coat on and jumped right up and started getting his outdoor gear on.

i asked him why he was going out so early to play in this cold. he said, "I'm coming out to shovel for you, Mommy. I'm supposed to help you." he smiled the whole time and kept asking if he worked as well as his daddy. i told him he was faster and better!

you couldn't have knocked that smile off his face with anything.

he went to town digging and pushing snow. hope he isn't worn out, because i still have to go out and fill dishes and collect eggs during the day!
