how old are they?

cockerels or roosters do not have any bearing on egg production whatsoever. it would only increase fertility of the eggs as stated earlier.

edited because i missed the post with the age of your chickens.

also, have you switched their food lately? do they have access to oyster shell?

mine laid all through winter without a change at all. different breeds do better with winter. and the change in the recent weather has not affected them either, but that doesn't mean yours would or would not be affected.

there are a ton of variables with chickens. i think you just need about eleventy more chickens!

if you heat the coop or light it and then stop that can mess with them.

all this being said, make sure to check all of them for mites. that will definitely mess up laying.

I do have a light in their hen house 24/7 and they have oyster shell all the time. I have switched them over to just cracked corn with treats every single day - just because I'm such a softy! The younger ones are about 6-7 months, and they are silkie mixes and banty mixes. I'm hoping they start producing in the next month.

They don't need light on 24/7. Think you are messing them up, big time. Their clocks are all out of whack, and they're not getting the nutrition they need. With our longer days, turn the light off and let nature do it's job.

This has nothing to do with a Granny... but I'm thinking about having a couple of geese - is it a problem if we have a fairly wide creek that runs through the back yard? Will they just swim away? Same question for ducks. Does anybody here have a creek/river and waterfowl?

Thanks!

Darn it! That's what I was afraid of. Of course if someone UPSTREAM would get some, it could all work out.

re Easter dinner, pork in all forms is on the menu, along with plenty of eggs!

Home grown honey glazed ham, potato salad, baked beans, deviled eggs, taco salad and chips.

Sam, enjoy every day with Granny.

Was a busy day here, put on vinyl siding and aluminum soffits on a home we are fixing from the hail.

Then I drove by TSC and bought a few more meaties....as long as I am at it, I might as well feed some more.

Did chores and then fixed a antique manure spreader I bought last year. I paid 50 bucks and it needed some work, I see someone has one like it for sale on Craigslist for 1100.00 I ought to sell it and buy a newer one.

My feet hurt.
