Hee, hee ChickWannaB! Depends how you define "new"! In my own mind I don't *feel* new as I've been obsessively reading BYC for almost 3 years now! Just never posted till recently! I considered Chickenstock last year, even noted it on my calendar on spec, but then "felined" out (just grabbed that out of the air, didn't want to say "chickened" out, and my chickens are much braver than a few cats I've known!). Anyway, I figured I might be more likely to be brave and go if I actually participated a bit in the Michigan thread first. So here I am! Along with my carpentry skills, my social skills in big groups of people I don't know are, well, stunted. But I do feel much better about going now I know some names (well, BYC names, good enough for me) and something of people's stories and enthusiasms.

So I'll try not to be the mousy one hanging her head around the edges of the crowd and not talking to anyone if a few of you take pity and talk chickens to me. (I have a feeling that finding people who want to talk chickens won't be too much of a problem...)

Oh I see, a Sand-Bagger!!! Sneaking around in the shadows. hahaha
Well I saw you had only 14 posts so figger'd you was new. Ya coming to Chickenstock then? It will be my first year there. I'm totally new to this site, forums and stuff. but Im going. Don't have alot of birds yet, very new to that as well, so am taking perennials to hopefully trade for a few new chickens. I have 2 ducks and 4 chicks. I havea couple walls of pics on MyPage now, have a look. And I put you on my buddy list. toodles. I need to brush my teeth and get to bed. Gotta get up with the chickens!!

I have a buddy! Thanks, ChickWannaB! Don't even know what that means in BYC culture, but thanks! Now I guess I hafta go to Chickenstock. 'Cause I'm gonna have a buddy there! See, silly self, that wasn't so hard, was it?

Off to bed for me too...

My chickens and ducks have had much worse than that fish! They get at least one fish a week because it's high in protein. That's when their egg production usually doubles, especially the bantams!

Really, well thats info I didn't have.
I'll have to keep it in mind. My hubby runs a Charter Service on Saginaw Bay. He cleans the fish for people and scraps the guts into a sack to throw away when he gets home. Would the chickens eat guts? We usually just dig a hole and put them in the garden. But it's awful when the dogs find it, dig it up and then roll in it when it's rotten! GAG!!

hahaha guts? my chickens FIGHT over the guts!!! Our neighbor fishes several times a week and throws the guts to my chickens every time and they'll chase each other for them, even if there's loads there for everyone! We just happen to give them a whole fish split between 40-some chickens and 22 ducks and a little for the pot belly pig. But it's when I've become creative with bantam eggs because their output goes crazy after eating fish!

They jumped out of the cooler top and literally stood there in front of my camera like they were posing lol
My camera really shows the dog hair on the carpet, despite it being vacuumed every day haha

My one and only all silkie. It looks white in the pic but it's a very light gray. I have several silkies, black and buff, but this is my new fave. I have several bantam eggs due to hatch this week so hopefully I'll have more!

Since I intend on being at Chickenstock you can count on having two buddies there. For past experience I can say with absolute certainty that would will never find a better group of people with whom you will feel completely at ease. The first year I attended I only knew one or two and last year because of so many new folks joinging I probably knew less than half of those attending. Yet in spite of basically being a lot of folks that didn't know each other no one was a stranger. I'm looking forward to meeting you, your other buddy ChicwannaB, all the other new folks, and of course the friends who have attended before.

Keyt, nice looking bunch of chicks.

Good Morning everyone!

It was a wonderful, much-needed weekend! I wish it wasnt over.

I work all week, but hopefully it will go smoothly. Its chilly this morning, again..almost have to look at the calendar to see what month it is.

Yorkchick- no worries about not knowing anyone for Chickenstock- by the time you leave, you will know everybody.

I was apprehensive about attending last year, because I didnt "know' anyone but we are a great group of people, and Granny handed out nametags- no more worries!!

My girls are excited to return this year! Its almost here!~

Keyt...*holding hand out* mine! Those chicks are so cute!
This year for chickenstock, I am not bringing a van load so I will have more room. AND I am ONLY bringing home silkies and showgirls..so, if nobody has any, the van will come home empty.
I am going to put blinders on my daughters.

Everyone have a great day- time for me to wake my group up. Only two more days left of school...yayayayyaayay!

Good Morning everyone. It is a beautuful morning.

Chicwannab - I am seriously impressed by your skills. I like to sit back and admire my work but they are very amature. lol I sill love them.

I finished my herb/flower garden around my chicken run last night. Its kinda funny to watch the chickens try to get at the herb plants through the chickenwire. In time they should grow big enough to be nibbled on.

Keyt - Cute chickies!!

Yorkchick...Welcome to the Michigan thread. I think we are clones...what you said regarding building projects....is ME too!!
BRAVO chickwannb.....we admire your independence and carpenter skills!! Attaway to go!!!

Today the weather will be PERFECT!! 75 and sunny. I have a list that goes on and on. I'm going to do some stretches to get out the "old as dirt" body-kinks and then a morning prayer to give thanks for this beautiful day..and then set forth to tackle that list!!

Like Yorkchick, I too like pallets. Always on the lookout for more.
I'll take them apart, make sure there or no nails or staples and then run the slats through the planer. I can get some beautiful wood for birdhouses, feeders, bat boxes and other things.
Pine pallets get used for wood racks and pieces go to the fire pit.

Don't know what was up with the ducks this morning, but 1 has been quacking like mad all morning. She started before sun-up and before the chickens came out of the coop. So Mr. Leghorn has to put in his 2 cents and starts crowing at her. It was a heck of a duet for awhile.
