I am selling some of the Icelandic roos. I do not want to sell them on Craigslist, rather here on BYC. I have 11 roos, want to keep 5 roos, so I have 6 to sell. They are this year's hatch, and are disease free as far as I know. Please pm me if interested.

Farmerboy...love your pictures!! I'm glad you are doing so well rebuilding your farm!

ChickwannaB....Weren't you searching for more Chanteclers??? Shelby at Star Bright Farm in Brown City has some advertised on Michigan farm classifieds.

Today should be nice out ...sunny and 36-40 degrees out. Yesterday it never got past 26 here! It was 15 degrees when I got up at 5am yesterday. Brrrrr.

Have a nice day everyone!

How many eggs are you hatching now?

I have one dozen in, 9 are the Lemons, 2 are my own Barred Rocks, one is unknown but either a Lt Brahma or a RIR, all fertilized by Buff Chantecler. so they are half-breeds. Except the Lemons. I will TRY to vent sex them when they hatch, would you just like a couple of my chicks once they can go outside??

YESSSSSS!!!!!

But it's cute anyway!!

Started the morning with a sick hen. One of my favorites, Peep a Polish. I'm not sure what is going on but after talking to Dr. Fulton as MSU he thinks it is either an egg or calcium issue. So she's in the crate in the basement and I have someone bringing me tums to doctor her up. I hope that is what it is, my big fears are Marecks or a respiratory disease - I have a very healthy fear of both!

Farmerboy - Your roos are so handsome! What kind of a comb do they have? Again I wish there was a reason to have more roosters.

Taprock, how do you contact M.S.U.? Is there a number that people can call? Thank you.

I hope your favorite chicken pulls through and it is something simple to treat.

I know of people who have flocks that have had Mareks and they have kept the surviving chickens. They offered to give me a chicken from that flock and they had plans to bring new chickens into their flock.

I know of people who keep flocks that have chronic respiratory disease. I don't know how things will go when they bring new chicks in this Spring. Because I think even though the infection is resolved in the older chickens, the new chicks may or may not be exposed to the virus or bacteria.

About one of nine flocks in Michigan has Cocci in the chickens and the soil. And I know people sell, trade and ship these chickens to other farms thereby infecting a new flock and contaminating the soil in a new location.

So having those illnesses does not mean that you have to cull your flock but I am wondering if we practice farming this way how we can ever get on top of these diseases?

p.s. all the farms I am speaking of above are in Michigan.
