Mildred and Bumblefoot

If you don't have any, I highly recommend Vet Wrap. Makes things go much more easily. I bought a less expensive human form in the first aid area, and it is much more difficult to use. The Vet Wrap was $2.50 at the feed store and sticks much better and is easier to get on and off of a duck foot - and to readjust if you need to re-wrap because it is too loose or to tight. With some gauze the Vet Wrap works much better.

The last time I had to bandage a duck foot and leg, I used vetwrap and then had to go over it with duck tape to get it to stay on. Sneaky duck figured out right away how to get it off!

Yeah, I tried wrapping them before and it didn't stay. I don't remember if it was vet wrap or not, but more likely it was something cheap and generic. What I ended up doing was using large sized dog booties and then putting tape over the velcro (wouldn't stay without tape). These worked OK for short term use, but really smooshed their feet weird with nowhere for the back toe to go, and one of them ended up being wrapped too tightly and her foot turned green (don't worry, it went back to normal when I re-wrapped it more loosely after discovering the problem!).

I ran out of vet wrap yesterday, and Mildred got out of her bandage last night. It was well taped with first aid tape (how the heck did she get that off?) plus the Hurt Free First Aid wrap and cotton. Persistent little duck.... Not what she needed to do...darn. Plus the foot looked like it might be starting to swell again last night....

The vet wrap seems to work better if you cut it length-wise and not width wise. If I cut it width wise, it didn't seem to hold as well.

Well, the patient has been washed, re-bandaged. Pics below. Tough to hold a duck and get teh camera far enough to get a pic (and actually get the duck in the pic). Finally got feet pics, but only got an bill and eye ball of the patient patient - LOL!

Bottom of foot.

Top of foot incision - some raised area on left - doesn't feel hard.

The raised veining on the left has me a little concerned.

Whoops - I missed. Nice bill though huh?

Eyeballing the human that keeps torturing me twice a day....where are my peas, human?

Love the photos! What a beautiful girl!

I know how hard it is to get a good duck photo!
