Mille Cochin Info

It was me.
Lines from the middle of the eye are boys and lines from underneath the eye are girls.
That was my theory. I get so many EE's with lines around the eyes I started paying a bit more attention to that breed and I hoped it worked for bantam Cochins and other breeds.

OK, Nadine, what do you think here?
Chick #1 (one of my 2 babies from Lynne's eggs). Based on feathering, I really would've guessed girl, but at just over 3 weeks, I think I'm seeing the start of wattles.

Chick #1 & other baby from Lynne's eggs. Feathering out identically. No sign of wattles on the second one, though.

Chick #2 Silver penciled, same age as chick #1, but feathering MUCH slower. Maybe because of different color variety, or hatchery stock?

And I have to say that the babies from Lynne have the most fabulous foot feathering! The S.P.'s from Ideal??? Pathetic, but I knew that it would be. I was hoping at most for something to work with.

In the next week or so, I am going to be re-arranging breeding coops & introducing this years' new breeders. I will have proven breeder hens (1-11/2 yrs old) & one or two of my breeder roos for sale. This is always a hard time for me as I'm very attached to all my birds.

" Who stays & who goes" is always a difficult decision. That being said, I want good homes for the ones that need to move on.

If anyone is interested in adding to their existing flock or starting this project with a pair or trio, please PM me for additional info & Pics.

I also want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has purchased hatching eggs & started birds from me in the past. It is heart warming to see the progress that has & "is" being made on this project.

Gail, I second that! Just a few years ago there were only a few sparse breeders in this country. Since Lynne has made it to this board, her birds have become literally a national sensation... like Gerber... or Beeber or whatever his name is

I would safely guestimate 90% of mille fleur cochin breeders have Lynne Van Dyke bird blood in their flocks and that is HUGE! But, without all these breeders and their efforts to create their own lines, we wouldn't have the genetic diversity we're building on and wouldn't be learning from eachother so much that we have all shaved years off of our projects.

Thanks Lynne and thank you , BYC. I believe, together, we have started a serious movement in the world of MFC
