Mille Cochin Info

Thank you fancy feathers I am really pleased with how he is turning out! Blarneyeggs I agree about the two in the top right corner in the group photo they have nice cushions good type. I love looking at lots of photos even though in the uk we call them pekins they are very similar. Backyard chickens is great so much info and so many experienced breeders!

Wait....what do you call 'pekins'? The photos? Or birds?

Pekins are the name for cochin bantams in other parts of the world.

Makes sense to me, as cochin bantams do not seem like miniture version of the large cochin, they look like completely separate varieties, so in the UK and parts of Europe and Africa, we call them Pekins instead.

Is there anyone near Claremore, OK that is in need of a Mille Fleur Cochin cock? Has excellent coloring but I believe his son has better wing carriage and cushion.

This is a photo of him in April. He has a darker front as of now.

Thank you. Yes, this makes a lot of sense. And here I thought there were all these LF Cochins running around with poor type!

His son has a darker color with a better head, comb, overall foot feathering, wide body and a nice tail. The cushion on his son is better already at 3 months than this guy's was so I have high hopes for him. The color on his son is more even. Smaller amounts of white overall. The body has red, with a smidge of black at the end of the feathers and a small white tip. I think the darker color of the younger cockerel is really gonna help with the poor coloring in the breast of the overall Mille Fleur color. I can take a pic of the youngster a bit later today if you'd like? He's still very young but overall a better bird. His wing carriage is very strong and he lacks any issues with split wing or low wing carriage. Which will be really important with some of the hens I have kept.
