I don't know the names of colors either but I think tortiseshell is all color with no or very little white. We always called this color grey calico, I know that isn't the correct name though.

I picked seedheads from various grasses by the roadside tonight. These will go to the quail in the winter when there is nothing interesting to do.

For the chickens, I've got only one feed sack stuffed with grass cuttings....if the weather and the gol-durned 40 year old lawn tractor cooperate, I'll get more. makes nice stuffing for the nest boxes in the winter and they pick thru it a bit.

Hoping to get some leaves - but it is hard to get a dry day in the fall in the woods.

making applebutter by crockpot tomorrow as I get to work from home. beautiful sunset tonight!

The one we have came out when she was almost a month old. I think they have their eyes shut for about 10 days or so, like rabbits.

I let everything free range. I do not worry too much about what I feed them this time of year because of my free ranging.


The 2 BBB (Blanchranch's and mine) hang out together, while the rest of the turkeys run as a group.

I would love to get a picture of her. The turkey comes up in conversations because this is one of our favorite dinners. I would like them to see their dinner before it is on the table. ;-)


So I went to the Renaissance Festival and I was watching some comedians dressed up like chickens with a group of friends. They picked me out of the crowd and had me come up on stage to help with a skit. My friends thought that was funny because I have chickens. They video taped it. I will have to post it some time so you guys can watch as I make a fool of myself.

Meanwhile. Here is a video some may have seen. But this is the addiction well explained.

What kind are they?

nope not from RFS,, but i did go there today to get some straw...
I ordered them from the same place i got the other girls. I figured since i don't have the space to quarantine my chances would be better at the same place... The Black one is a EE and the white one is a White Rock they are both 10 wks.. they are 1 wk older then my other girls but way smaller. I must feed my girls way better. hopefully the new girls catch up quick..I had them separated today. I did take the poop bedding from the box of the new girls and place it in the run so my girls could get the smell of them... tonight when they went to bed i put the new girls up on the roost with them... fingers xx`ed i don't have dead or bloody birds in the morning....
