I'm in Burnsville and I've got a Buff Orpington, Silver Laced Wyandotte, Americauna and Black Osterlorp on their way next week. What part of MN are you in?

I've owned both buff orpingtons and black australorps. Both are big docile chickens. Good layers too! I am in Maplewood. Currently trying my first shot at incubating, they are all mutts but will be fun to see what comes out! Also have some ducks incubating, those ones were shipped eggs so i am more nervous about those

Any one around the area raise polish chickens? Are they pretty intolerant of our Minnesota winters?

They can tolerate it if you can tolerate their flightiness.

I am in Monticello and it is $50 a year, and I have to get my neighbors' permission... EVERY YEAR!

At least I can have them.

I have Polish chickens and find that they are okay in Minnesota winters. They are a little more flighty but they also have very interesting personalities. Lots of fun to watch because they can't always see where they are going but that makes them a not-so-great choice for free ranging. They are not the best layers in the world, either. They lay well when they are laying, but they take long breaks in between and mine never lay in the winter. I still enjoy having them around. My avatar is one of my Polish crosses.

I like more docile birds. Anyone have opinions on cochins, EEs, or marans?

my eer.s are the friendliest of my flock. cochinc are sweet cuddly feather balls but very broody...have my first maran who is six weeks old...so far very sweet and inquisitive

Docile and good layers are what I'm going for! No roosters allowed in Burnsville. License is $50 for two years, then you have to renew. They gave me bands to put on the hen's legs. I wonder how that's going to work.

When i was house hunting last summer i was looking at Hudson. I was under the impressionthat hens were allowed?

Hudson township you can, and north Hudson you can just not Hudson Hudson.
