just wanted to say that if you feel your flock is wasting too much food when you feed mash, just moisten it (hard to do in freezing temps). You can use old milk, water, pan drippings, etc - doesn't take much. I do use pelleted feed or curmbles when I am going to be gone, to make it easier for my neighbors that do chicken chores for me when I'm away.

I second lalaland on wetting the mash... I've been doing that all winter and just put it in a shallow heated dog dish to keep it from freezing. They seem to appreciate a little warm mash on these cold mornings.
On a side note, you'd think by the end of March we'd be done with this -20 stuff...

Bogtown, I have some really cool Easter Eggers coming this year, different colors plus some with poofy cheeks, some with feathered legs, some with both! I am only setting EEs every other week, so if you want to get some eggs, let me know. For EEs hatching eggs $10 per dozen, (psst I always put in extras if I have them.

Now that the girls are laying better, I should have eggs for most breeds except Buckeyes. I don't have any Barnevelders or BLRW and won't for a while until they get laying and orders get filled.

Literally I will put 6 eggs under that BA if she goes broody! A dozen?!

Playing the chances 50/50 which we all know that's a dream world...but I'll have 3 cockerals for Freezer camp and 3 layers if all goes well.

I know hatch rate etc will play a role...but my luck is we'll have to find space for 6 hens!

My coop is probably nicer these long winters with a few less, if I keep my chicken math in check. LOL. Silkie bantams included

. I might put you on stand by Minnie with a 'Mini' order though...if that's okay...? THE BLRWs! I've been drooling over pictures of those birds lately. Like the idea of a chocolate brown egg in my cartons too. Putting alot of faith in that BA aren't I?

Just let me know. I can ship less than a dozen, no problem. I have a bit of a wait on the BLRWs, especially since I haven't gotten eggs from them yet. If I remember correctly, they were hold-outs last year too. Not happy about that. I could always send you a surprise mix too

My Wellies lay nice dark eggs, and even a couple of my New Hampshires are laying dark. I have Marans hens in with the Ameraucana rooster and they should give up some olive egg layers. Yup, just call me The Enabler!

Does anyone have Swedish Flower Hen chicks? My daughter would like to add one to our flock. I know the difficulty of adding only one hen to a flock, but we only have 4 girls. My daughter will work with them to integrate her into the flock. I'm in the Elk River area.

I should have some chicks available later in the season. I can't sex day olds though, so are you looking for a few chicks or for an older pullet/hen? I am up in Milaca area.
