Minnesota!

Anybody have any experience with peacocks? A free agent peacock showed up in the yard yesterday and again today. He's hungry and thirsty so I've fed and watered him, but should I discourage him from hanging around instead?

He's definitely male. He's been hanging out in the coop (which is NOT big enough for him) all day. The girls are mostly in the yard getting rained on, and he's sitting on their perch with his huge tail just taking up all the space. He's dry, the hens are all wet.

Quite the visitor. Beautiflul and he knows it so he makes himself right at home. LOL. I think it's up to you on how much you want to tolerate, or risk if he has an illness or pests you can't readily see. I imagine he was probably well taken care of. I don't think they are cheap and I'm sure the owner is looking for him...but...you never know.

Maybe call your humane society around your area and see if any one has called missing him...

Funny. he likes the color of the coop probably....

Well, he does seem to fit right in. I do worry a bit about disease or pests... but, sometimes wildlife just happens.

We did call Animal Control, but they said they don't do anything about it. They just make a note in case someone calls to say they're missing a peacock then they'll give them the last known location.

My yard virtually backs up to a nature preserve, so he could have easily traveled through it from 3 or 4 different cities that are around it. I figure as long as he behaves he can make himself at home... or leave. Whatever he wants. If he causes trouble I'll chase him off.

Place an ad in Craigslist to see if anyone is missing one, but do t post pictures, ask them for a description of him when they contact you. If I had a place for him I'd be happy to take it off your hands, sadly I do not.

On the way to the coop this morning, I heard a weird crowing type noise. I'm pretty sure my 'chick-chicks', as the grandson calls them, are still too young to try crowing, about 6-7 weeks old. I have plenty of wildlife that it could be around here. Any thoughts? It really just caught me off guard, I hadn't had my coffee yet! These little guys seem like they are growing faster then the first chicks that I started with. Minnie I love that little Cochin, just so sweet. They all are so busy & adventuresome.

If there is going to be a get together, I'd like to day trip it. It would be fun to meet some more of y'all.

It is quite possible that you have a crower already. I have heard some as young as 2 weeks TRY. Start looking for red wattles and you may find who the noise maker is.

Hi! I'm not officially a Minnesotan anymore, but spend quite a bit of time in MN. I was raised in the cities, but my family all lives in a Fergus Falls now. I live in a Hudson now, just a hop over the St. Croix. I just got my coop up and inspected this week, and am now the proud mama to 5 hens.

I have three 8 week old English orps from Delisha I need to find homes for: a cuckoo, a gold laced, and a project who is creamy and gold. I'll try to attach some pics. Anyone interested? We are getting desperate to find these fellas a home.
