Minnesota!

Minnie, duck is a tough dish to get right. Most will cook it to well done and that is not good. Duck to taste good should be medium rare. The best tasting duck is Blue Winged Teal.
There is a big difference in how one variety tastes as compared to others.

I like duck better than I like goose. I like the slightly liver flavor of a duck. But I found what the duck eats and where he lived made a big difference.

As u can see I started with poultry at a young age. This turkey just showed up at my grandpas and liked us and slept on the deck rail. It magically dissapeared around Thanksgiving. And I started turkey hunting at a young age. I am the kid in the black way back in fall of 2010.

Great Pictures Holm. I agree birds are fascinating and I think I will always have chickens. Love 'em.

Ralphie those little fluff balls have my heart! Do you suppose there's a new "Bert" like character waiting to reveal himself in that bunch?! Gosh...so much fun. Sorry Minnie about your lost order. Makes me cringe.

Well today the butterball went to the vet for first shots and wormer. $40 vet bill and he spent an hour with us. So nice, and thorough too.

She's got a grade 2 heart murmur. Which is not great news. We're hoping she'll outgrow it in the next 3-5 weeks. Im not game for dealing with health issues in a dog. I've had my fill this year. If she doesn't grow out of it we'll have to watch out for her while she's out hunting / exercising. Or not hunt her. No University of MN surgery rabbit hole for us.

Got some photos of her this morning. Here she is in mild observance and I'm thinking the look may be of too much interest, for my own comfort. More time and introductions teaching her. I think yet. She's going around the corner to their shady dusting spot where they like to hangout under a big hydrangea bush (north side of the house) and she's rustling them out of there. Starting to get a bit more frisky and agile with that puppy body.

And here she is with her morning snack...I'm sure. Puppy breath at our house has a whole new flavor, folks.

My babies are 8 weeks old today. They're growing up so fast....I let them out to pasture today, I've been keeping them in the run while I'm at work up until now. Soon it will be off to college and then they'll never call or write...

The last time I cut off the breasts and cooked them separately following a cooking instruction for just breast. Hubby says it was good but I didn't care for it. The rest was pan seared then roasted after I cut into pieces. I imagine wild vs. farm raised is a little different in flavor too.

Holm-love your pictures! Thanks for sharing with us!

Foxy-that black one with the fuzzy cheeks sure is a looker! Mighty pretty that one!

Bogtown-Sadie is growing so quickly!

Sadie is in the same position I see my dogs most the day, head down, turned slightly, swallowing poop...

Foxy I like the black EE too, I to not have black, and something ate my white one...They are cool...

I need to win the lottery soon, so I can have a gazillion chickens..
