Minnesota!

Her foot looked better but has lots of healing to go. We put new cream and bandages on. She is still pretty smelly though. is there something i can bathe her in to get the funk out? we have washed off as much poo as we can and trimmed some of the butt fluff but still.. pew! dish soap? shampoo of some kind?
Washing a bird, you can use just plain dish soap, or I use Dreft or Ivory Snow but that is for show birds. For the foot, you can mix a pasty concoction of sugar and betadine and slather it all over the wound. It is supposed to draw out the infection. Use gauze and vet wrap to dress it. You will want to do this daily for the quickest healing. Once it looks like the pus is cleared up, use the Neosporin and wrap.
For wrapping, it is easiest to cut the vet wrap into 1/2-3/4" wide strips (the long way from the roll, not across), and get it wrapped so that the gauze and wound are covered and not getting poop in under the dressing.

hmm. is the smell coming from the foot? Or just all over? Do you think it is a poop smell? Sometimes illness makes a hen stink, and no amount of washing helps because it is a whole body illness thing.

I would soak her in epsom salts, it will be good for the foot and for the rest of her as well. After that, perhaps dishsoap or shampoo, but suds can be hard to get out of feathers.

Bumblefoot would not cause a hen to be laying on her side unless, and it is a big if, the infection was systemic. I would think she would have passed by now if that were the case....so I still think something might be wrong with her that isn't the bumblefoot....sorry, just IMHO.

I agree with lala. They can walk around just fine with bumblefoot and you don't even know it, sometimes. If she is really smelly, that means something is internally wrong with her.

She hasn't been laying on her side since I fixed the foot. That was just the one time I took her to the coop. I will probably pick up some Epsom salt after work and soak her tonight, then give her a good scrub with soap. If that doesn't fix the stink, I will start looking for more signs or symptoms to help diagnose.

I don't think the smell is infection smell, just chicken poop stinky.

Thank you all for the advice and support. This is the first time I have really had to deal with a sick hen

I did it and would prefer to never do it again... it was hard to do at Ralphies but I think it was easier because it wasn't one of my own... Well my girl Butterscotch the one that has had all the problems,,, i went to the run this morning to feed and water and noticed there was almost nothing left to her head I could see her eyeballs but her head was bloody with huge holes it was not good.. I think maybe she scratched till it bleed and the other girls must have did the rest. I didn't see any sign of entry from an animal and everyone else looked good. So i knew what needed to be done. I made a killing cone out of a milk jug and screwed it to the tree. I went to the coop and said Pooper Pack and yes she came right to me,,,she always has, she is the only one that does... so I picked her up and held her. when she started cooing it just about broke my heart. Anyways it was over very quickly...

I was going to take her to the U of M but I just couldn't i dug a big hole by the Cherry Tree...

2 hens in 1 wk... to hard...
