Mislabeled Tractor Supply/Feed Store Chicks

I can't complain. I'm attached to the girls and boys. They all have good didpositions/temperaments. It was just a shock as a first time chicken owner to get boys. I guess I've learned slot during this whole process do there is that. And I got lucky with a female Peking that is an absolute adorable pleasure.

I got what I hope are Rhode Island Reds today from TSC....But I think they are actually Rhode Island Reds....I googled before I bought. I lost my sweet RIR today and desperately hope that one of these new girls (I hope) will have the same great personality.

Lol, ohhhhhh yeah! The young lady at our TSC seemed to know what she was talking about as she was describing to a new guy how to tell the different breeds apart. However, I wanted two each SLW, GLW, Black Jersey Giants, and Buff Orpingtons. What I ended up with were four SLW, two GLW, a RIR, and a New Hampshire Red! Fortunately, I did get really lucky in the gender department with seven pullets and one roo!

I am glad we got our chicks at North 40 rather than TSC. At least we got the breeds we wanted even if one ended up being a boy. But they didn’t let you handle the birds either. You pointed out the ones you wanted and the staff member caught them for you. I think they did that so that they didn’t get any chicks in the wrong bins.

Of course my in laws picked up two for us and told me they were a Gold pullet and a Black pullet. Come to find out through research they were Gold Sexlink & Black Sexlink.

They have a bin with about 50 Cornish Xs in it that are already just crawling from the feeder to water and laying on their a$$es and won't move for jack sch!t! They go for $.50 each. I was tempted but I've had them before and I'll be dammed if I have a bunch of lazy birds crawling from the water to the feed and from feed to water, never leaving the pen. Between the inevitable broken legs from too fast growth and watching them pull themselves along by their wings, it's sickening. It's also why I will never ever again by a store bought bird! I refuse to support this sick and twisted abuse for the cheapest food they can raise!
