Missouri Dominique Project

Interesting thread. I'm glad this thread popped to the top. The Missouri Doms are very intriguing.

From My reading the original doms seemed to be more game in build, but not Game. I'd be interested in hearing or reading more if there are other threads or posts.

There is another thread called the Dominique thread. Centrarchid has a lot of postings on there also.

I am very particular when I say American Dominique versus Missouri Dominique. Very particular. That is clear in all my postings. Same pattern holds when I indicate American Games.

Yes, I understand that but I was just clarifying to be sure you understood where I was coming from.

So, do you have a somewhat under par to your critical standards a young/year old Voter Dominique roo that you would be willing to part with?

If you do, send me a private message and we can talk transactions. If you don't, that's quite alright I can keep looking.

No. Keep looking.

Yes, but very different breeds
Missouri Dominique at this time is not a breed, rather a long-term project I have invested just over a decade in. Once I get so population breeds true, then the longer process of getting it recognized will be started. The end product will be distinguishable from American Dominiques and likely more closely approximate what the American Dominique was during it heyday prior to introduction of Asian blood and splitting from Barred Plymouth Rock.

Last round of culls on male side before 2018 breeding season commences. All will begin process for being table-fare by 4:00 PM today. Bird on left carries short feathering coming from Voter Strain American Dominue that really looks bad on late season hatch cockerels. He is also light in coloration. Next 2 carry the white skin gene all will have within a few generations. A brother an a sister will be carried forward to make so every brood produced this season will have about 50% chicks with white skin and legs. The next bird has a straight comb and is a little on the small side as an adult but grew well through eating size as a fryer. Last is a cock that has left behind two daughters and a son in the breeding stock. Son has a straight comb and lacks extended black (E) but has good type and excellent feathering. He also has excellent behavior favoring the game side of his ancestry.

The cock lacks the smooth U-shape going up tail but his brothers and most of his sons do.

I am thinking very hard about letting the extended black (E) gene drop out. It does not appear to be essential for covering up foreign color in the adult male. This will allow me to run pure American Dominques along side them through the brooder prior to marking. Currently I have to run the Missouri and American Dominiques separately which is not efficient use of resources..

Note color of bill on this guy as it also betrays his white skin and white legs. I think the original dominiques sported that prior to selection for yellow legs and skin.
