I have been dealing with other mites since I started with chickens. I have tried flea and tick dog and cat shampoo, Martin’s pen and poultry spray, food grade diatomaceous earth, and permethrin 10. The mites are all over them now and not just in their wings and vent/tail area. Where the mites are there is cuts, redness, and little purple spots that are new. I don’t know that type of mite they have but is it really harming them. I live in Florida and if you don’t know it rains every afternoon and is extremely hot in the morning. I was looking into ivermectin but I know nothing about it. What should I do? The pictures below are the products I used and the mites on my Barnevelder.

I'm sorry you're dealing with this. I used the permethrin when my flock had mites. How often are you treating? Just the birds or the coop and nest boxes as well? Did you remove all the bedding and nesting materials, as in to the garbage and off property not into a yard or compost?

The permithren: I cleaned the coop top to bottom. I put the spray on every where in the coop. I have done it twice. For one coop the bedding gose in my school compost. The other coop gets all bedding in the trash.

I waited till the next month since the label didn’t give good instructions on how often. No I didn’t do the bird because I mixed the amount for spraying walls not chickens.

Clean and treat your coop once a week for at least 3 weeks. Same with the birds. I used permethrin concentrate. I pulled out all my pine pellet bedding, thoroughly sprayed my coop and allowed it to dry (VERY important to get into every single nook and cranny), used permethrin dust to cover the floor of my coop along with wood ashes, fresh pine pellets on top. I also used the dust on the birds. Poof their vents and under both wings making sure to get to the skin. You can use the permethrin spray on the birds, follow the directions for mixing. Add wood ash to their dust bath. It's been a terrible year for mites all the way up here in Wisconsin. Like nothing I've ever seen. I'm positive if I didn't find them in my coop when I did they would have killed my birds. I also dusted the yard all around the coop and run.
