My boy is half brahma and he has a straight comb. It just depends on which genes are passed to each chick.

Your brahma must carry one copy of the pea comb gene and one copy of the single comb gene, then :) Pea comb is dominant, so in a brahma that has two copies (most should, hatchery stock notwithstanding since hatcheries don't exactly breed to the standard, lol) all its offspring, when crossed to a bird with a single comb (which is a recessive gene) should have pea combs.

This makes sense! I have no idea where my Brahma hen came from, as the lady that sold her to me told me she was a Rhode Island Red (what the what?? Brahmas look nothing like a RIR). She's a good bird though! I wouldn't trade her for anything.

Orange Rooster: Cross Australorp hen & Buff Orpington rooster

This is Mama (she hatched out our first home hatched chicks earlier this year). She is from a Dominique Roo over a Buff Orpington hen

This is her half sister, Red, she is from the same Dominique Roo over a RIR hen.

This is a picture of General Tso, the full brother of Red (front left). He went into the dinner pot because he was a MEAN rooster, but pretty.

Two of the chicks Mama hatched for me earlier this year are really interesting.

This is Cheeks (at 16 weeks), she is from a (Leghorn/mystery hen) Roo over a (leghorn/EE hen). I love the faint yellow edging on her feathers. She is really tiny and still slips through my electric poultry netting.

This is Grey Stuff (first 2 pictures taken at 11w, next taken at 16w), he is from the same (Leghorn/mystery hen) Roo over a Dominique Hen. I'm really interested to see how he looks as he gets older.

I currently have eggs under a broody from my Black Cochin Roo (my avatar picture) and my pure Dominique and Dominique cross girls. I can't wait to see what they look like as they get older.
