Mixed breeds

Pics
California Grey= White Leghorn x Barred Rock.
California White= Cali Grey x White Leghorn

So yes you'll most likely get a colorful bunch. The ones I've seen are mostly either white, white with black flecks, or white with ghost barring( very light barring). I haven't actually seen any blacks come out of the breeding a but I suppose it could happen.

Interesting. Well who knows. Maybe I don't know what breed I'm actually working with! They were given to me so I'm not 100% sure. Thanks for the input. :)

Unless I'm misinformed, California grey is not an f1 cross of White leghorn and Barred rock but a breed developed from that cross.
They are pure for extended black and barring. The leghorn is pure for dominant white. Breeding California white to California white, You should on average get 1/4 black chicks half of which (1/8 of the whole batch) would be barred. Half of the chicks should be yellow with a few black specks like the original cross. 1/4 would be pure yellow as they would have a double dose of the dominant white gene. Unless... There is something more hiding under the dominant white of the original leghorns

You're probably not misinformed. The original cross (California Grey) was WL x BR. Most of the early years were from that cross. I think most now are crossed to each other.

Most all White Leghorns carry barring so it will appear occasionally in Cali Grey to White Leghorn crosses.

Now done of this is experience (seeing them) but I've also found it on the Internet, but don't recall right now what site it was on.

Pics over time of one of my EE mix chicks. I don't have a pic of the EE mom, but judging by this mix, can you tell me the color of its mom? They have identical color pattern and personality.
She (the chick; pretty sure it's a pullet) started out with a speckled pattern, but the speckles disappeared as she aged. Also, it has feathered feet and a small crest. I had a SS rooster and a partridge silkie rooster in the same coop with the mom, so is it possible for the chick to have genes from both roosters and the EE mom? Thanks for any help!

My guess is your silkie was a busy boy. I seriously doubt the chick has genes from both roosters.

The white coloring your chick had was not true speckling, it was simply a phase of juvenile plumage the bird outgrew as it grew more mature feathers. Speckling is recessive, so your SS rooster won't give you speckled offspring unless bred to a bird that at least has speckled ancestry.

Does anyone have a pic of a Speckled Sussex/BO mix?

No pic, but I'm thinking you're going to get orange/gold birds. The speckling is recessive so you won't see any of the pretty markings on an f1 cross. SS are mahogany based, so if you find pics of true RIR or Buckeyes crossed with Buffs, your chicks will look pretty much the same.

wondering if someone has an idea what breeds these two might be? I THINK they are mixed... but wouldn't mind having an idea as to what they are. original owner had no clue

Thanks

The white one looks like a light Sussex. No clue on the other one. They both look like young hens
