Looks like the black jersey Giants traits are dominant

Very much do. I like black chickens so I guess that's good. There could be some leakage when they get the real feathers in.
They should also make some big chickens, they certainly were the biggest at hatch.

I like the back birds too, but then I like a variety.

Yours look great. I have thought about getting a Jersey Giant. Could you let us know how large the birds get?

I know we all have different goals with out mutts, I have two goals, I want the most diversified colors possible in my egg basket and...I want a meat chicken with the largest thighs and drumsticks I can make.

I am going to be breeding some "toads" soon. I should have the toad breeding pen done today or tomorrow. I have a CX rooster that is 10 months old. He is very healthy, I have restricted his feed so he is not able to eat himself to death. I force him to free range. He will travel a hundred yards or so from his coop. For a CX that is like being a marathon runner.

I am crossing him with some Dixie Rainbows. That should give me larger drumsticks and still keep a respectable breast. AKA a "TOAD"

I am getting excited about having Toads by the first of June!

@duluthralphie That is an awesome mix you have there. My hatchery JG got to stand well over two feet, as tall as my Brahmas. I would recommend breeder quaility though as my hatchery fellows were vicious (ever for a 'docile' breed).

Speaking of black birds, I am so happy that I choose Lavender Ameraucanas over all of the other amazing Ameraucana colors. I have my Lav Am roo over his Lav hen and four EE girls. The offspring is SO easy to tell which are EE's and which are pure. Just checked the incubator and I have 3 lovely poofy cheeked black babies (all EE's) and one pure silver! Still have 13 eggs to go and they are only at day 20. I'll post some pics later, I have some older EEs that are starting to get some color, they are so darn cute.

@draye How goes the project birds?

I updated the thread yesterday. There hasn't been a lot going on with them. The young pullets have started laying looks like only three are laying green eggs though. Take a look at the thread.

I have no idea what either of those are other than they are banties...

I am making Toads!

I have my CX rooster in a covered pen and coop with 3 Dixie Rainbows, I will start saving eggs in about 3 weeks and make toads, hopefully with huge drumsticks,

Now that I have them separated I am excited and wish I had done it earlier.
