My house just had an attempted break in. I heard the back door creak and yelled out GO AWAY (but in coarser terms if you get my drift). Then I sneaked into the kitchen which was very dark and peered out the window. Saw him crouching down and creeping away so I yelled out I CAN SEE YOU, F. O. Then I checked the time (5.14am) and called the police who showed up within 20 minutes and looked all around and had a chat. They're going to see if the next door neighbour's door camera got any images.

I need to improve home security.

Good grief, MJ!!!! How scary. The lad & I need to change our ways. More often than not we forget to lock up. Results of living on an island for years & years.

So, I've got two quotes scheduled for Monday.

The first is for driveway gates. I've been wanting these for a while, not least because it'll keep the hens and car safer, but after this morning, I really like the idea of keeping intruders out of the backyard.

The second is quoting to install three motion-sensing lights with built-in cameras. That'll cover all three doors and the two most vulnerable windows.

I'm delighted to say noone tried to come into the house last night!

However, I was awake between 1 and 4 worrying about it.

Also, I have chicken news to share: Mary has decided to brood again. If I put eggs under her now, they'll hatch while I'm on summer holiday (assuming it goes according to plan, which it might not).

I'm still not thrilled by the fox proofing, but I can move forward on that while the eggs are incubating. I'm worried it won't be completed before hatching, should I wait for another opportunity? I'm in two minds.
