MJ's little flock

What sort of a mix will your neighbour provide? I am assuming they have barnyard mixes...?
I don't know yet. I haven't seen the rooster, only heard him. I'm assuming they keep hens as well because otherwise they'd have a very sad gent on their hands. I'm not very fussed about breeds, but today's heat, Mary's struggle and your comments on banties has got me reconsidering my options.

Mary took a long drink, by the way.

I did say there were some distinct advantages to bantams. ;) Egg laying isn't one of them though. :( When I had Australorps I found they didn't do so great in the heat either ~ & they too were on the larger size. The Campines & bantams are likely to still be foraging long after the larger girls have found somewhere cool to rest. I'm not sure Campines would go with your established flock but Wyandotte bantams might. They're not too bad in the egg laying department & while larger than Japs or D'Uccles also seem to handle the heat better despite rose combs.

20 minutes later and she's on her feet and almost back to normal. I've added ice to the water to help her cool down even further.

Ivy has been providing first aid by reminding Mary how to eat watermelon.

There seem to be a number of Sebrights in Adelaide. They're close-feathered, sleek little things. Very pretty and cheeky.

Ooooh...I've always wanted to try sebrights! 💓 They are a true bantam & the cocks are hen feathered so you won't know how many roosters you have until they start crowing!!! They remind me of Campines in attitude & they are fliers! 🤣

Well, we shall see. It might not be possible to get Sebright eggs with short notice.

Tomorrow's forecast is for 38° so I'm thinking it will probably reach 40 at my place. Is that too hot? It will be around 10C cooler with the misting going.

Peggy seems to think now is the time, she's good to go. I'll mix their dinners up then pop down the street for a chat about eggs.

Eep, that’s a stinker! Glad to hear the mister will knock 10 degrees off.

How many eggs are you thinking of getting?
