MJ's little flock

Good morning MJ :frow

I do most of my byc stuff at 4:30 AM my time... The site was down and I got way behind, that coupled with no time during the day when things were slow put me way behind. I've pretty much caught up now, but have at least 30 greets to do tomorrow.

Have you got an 'elsewhere' in mind?
I hope so because I did a hunt & there aren't many breeding CLs out here that I could find. The other one is waaay closer to me than MJ. Of course, she could go for Campines... :plbb

Not really, no.

There's a bulletin board used by some people in the local chickening community when they want to sell stock. In the past I didn't have much luck calling breeders in the poultry association, but I could try that again. The breeder who's not responding to me is not in the poultry association, she breeds for the backyard market. Then there's gumtree, some people list chickens for sale on gumtree. One or two of the fodder stores source and sell pullets that don't come from commercial hatcheries, so I could try them. I won't support commercial hatcheries because they trim the chicks' beaks and they selectively breed for egg production.

I may end up taking a long drive to get pullets from interstate.

I'm still keen on smaller standard pullets. When I've built the big henhouse I'll get some larger hens.

@MaryJanet : I've just had a thought. [& don't ask if it hurts... ]. There's something called Animal Ark that transports animals around the country ~

I don't know what it would cost but may be worth an ask save you a road trip.

So, I've been making lots of phone calls and have identified the one fodder store selling heritage breeds to backyard chickeners. Sandersons Fodder in Coromandel Valley.

I'm writing the post as a note to myself so I don't forget.

They've got some heritage breed pullets arriving on Saturday and I'm passing by Coromandel Valley on my way to my aunty's bbq on Sunday afternoon, so I'll pop in and introduce myself.

Trying out the photo upload feature

Here's dear little Mary the moment she clapped eyes on her new home.
