MJ's little flock

Today the temperature reached 33 and all the chooks were roaming the garden from 12.45, mainly so they could find shade. I left the back porch open with a bowl of iced water in the corner.

I left them to it and went gift shopping. At 2.30 we'd finished the shopping and were having a cool drink. I showed my brother the live feed from the back porch when I heard Peggy make her distress call.

The hens were trapped in the back porch with at least one red marauder! So we grabbed everything and raced home in a panic to let them out again. Turns out they were fine, but hot and bothered.

What's going on? Is everything ok?
I’ve just got through one crisis, which actually turned out not to be a crisis but gave my mental health an absolute flogging in the meantime, then I can’t work out why Nyssa is wheezing and now it looks like Snowy has started sneezing. She’s currently broody so holed up in the nest for most of the day so I can’t judge how she is normally. And how can I put the babies in the run if it’s something environmental? Bob said he’s going to try and help me get to the bottom of it, but I spent today picturing giving the babies away and possibly euthanising the other two and it just made me so sad.

Lorna's course of antibiotics finished yesterday but Christa has two more trips to the vet left to go.

Lorna is improved. Yesterday was a very warm day, but she was eating and drinking and scampering, also resting and snoozing more than the others.
She seems to like the new pellets. I'll try giving the pullets some scrambled egg with kefir mixed in. At least it will cheer them all up, at most it'll do them some good.

The big four have such a closeknit friendship circle right now.

I put it down to the overtures of the Red Marauders making them grateful for peaceful friendships.

Speaking of whom, I put two bricks down, end to end, to make a little perch as it seemed the nice branch I provided wasn't good enough. I have since been informed that the two bricks constitute "A full chicken palace, many thanks!! We shall be sleeping safe tonight!! Woooohooo!!"

And Christa is doing much better. One more injection to go.

In sadder news, here is one of Lorna's poops (the watery one).

She's eating and drinking more than when she started treatment six days ago, but this is what comes out :(

I'll finish on a high note with The Queen of All She Surveys.

So sorry to see Lorna’s poop. I hope she pulls through whatever she has going on.
