My daughter just left her engineering firm because of this. She had been there over 8 years. I think they always saw her as one of the guys until she had Eve. Then they started pushing her out and treating her different. 30 men to 4 women. Two women quit within days of each other. The environment is toxic now. It angers me so much that this is still going on.

My other daughter is a prosecuting attorney. You would blanch at what cops, bailiffs, and judges think is ok to say to her.

This is a soap box for me. I raised two strong women who work in fields that used to be for men only. It's wrong and I get really mad about it. No one should have to put up with that.

Well Bob, if you have to pick a soapbox, then that’s one I can get behind!

I have a feeling we've been looking at it wrong. People are studying the women. I think we need to study the men, specifically the school/uni to work transition (eg What happens to the decent young men that they begin to perpetuat patriarchal norms?) and with action research, so that young male participants are shown how to make change.

I have to say... not what I was expecting from your description of a poultry sale. I wouldn’t support that sort of event with given a choice, either. But I’m also the bleeding heart bring them all home type, so I try to avoid those sorts of situations whenever possible. To not support the situation, not that I don’t want to save all the animals... despite being a meat grower, who has no major issues slaughtering and eating them.

I am very glad that a lot of the livestock will now get to transition to pets. I am happy for them.

I was a bit shocked and surprised too. I hope those poor chooks weren't in the boxes for more than 12 hours. I agree with you MJ, we shouldn't encourage them...

Hello rjohns Glad you got your feed in yesterday! Everything here is a-ok except for one dropped egg overnight. It was one of Mary's. Not like to drop an egg from up on the roost, but that's ok we all make mistakes. They seem to be enjoying the new roost perches. Although, the sturdiness has provided Janet with greater opportunity for roosting aggression and poor Sandy has been sleeping in the nesting boxes instead. I may intervene if things don't improve.

I often intervene @ roosting ~ mainly because Lavender is such a BIG girl. Once there are a few girls on that top roost she has trouble getting up there but inevitably getting her up there causes a commotion. Last night Lottie got left behind. I don't like her roosting on her own just because she's so tiny so I tucked her in with the Campines ~ they get along ~ everyone suddenly decided they didn't like their roost mate & there was a mad scramble while everyone changed to a new position.
