I think I'm going to choose Cilin for my vicarious rooster. He was so sad that day he lost his tail that he touched my heart.

Not a bad choice. All round he's done very well, especially given he didn't have a dad or mum to show him the ropes. He's a bit overwhelmed atm because he's got a large tribe, too many for him to cope with properly.

It seems they're hard to come by in many places.Lozzy has a good vet too, and Shad, but I think we're the only ones.

My vet Gloria is lovely and she does the best she can. She just doesn't have the equipment or up to date knowledge a good avian vet has. My sister in the UK has a first class avian vet, but of course he's expensive.

I think it helps that the other two hens are focussed on the youngsters now, so Sandy isn't in their sights any longer (except when Mary corrects Sandy's overzealous pecking of Peggy). The other bonus are the new levels of roosts because Sandy's left alone at bedtime. I wish I'd moved sooner with the different levels but it didn't occur to me until I was thinking of five needing roosts, and then Ivy flew up and left Peggy to deal with the storm of pecking.

All this, and pullers to chase. And fewer pains in the ovaries.

I'm hoping 2020 will be Sandy's year to really flourish.

Peggy's Eggies for brekky

Verdict: super delicious!

They didn't stiffen like Janet's eggs. They were closer to Sandy's in (un)stiffness.

The first one she laid had a papery shell but the subsequent shells were very strong.

Also Janet's eggs are richer.

However, the novelty factor of cracking blue eggs was very high (sorry Bob)
