MJ's little flock

While I totally understand that he caused problems for everyone by his actions, I feel bad for him . He is just one individual, no different than myself, who was sneaking in a few extra hours because he was hoping to earn a few extra bucks. Now his entire life is in disarray. I know how it feels when your whole life crashes and burns and you sit there thinking “can’t I just rewind and go back to last week?”

I think most of us who aren't wealthy know what a few extra shifts can mean. But there's a little of "they're taking our jobs" in the public discourse. To which I like to answer, "ok well, if you want to put your hand up for pizza delivery and cleaning toilets, go for it." Anyway, it's this fear is addressed by work restrictions in student visas.

More importantly, the work restrictions are because we genuinely want students to have time away from work to study. So that a skilled migration path is open to them.

From one of the boards I'm on I know the shortfall between IT experts in the education pipeline and the demand, so skilled migration is extremely important for Australia to continue flourishing.

If you know any Australian youngsters who want to secure their financial well-being, they really can't go wrong in IT. Especially young women who are in the minority in that profession.

ETA my chicken tax of these two chowing down on last night's mash.
