Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe

This recipe is from one of the kid's cookbooks that I recommended to Ribh a while ago. It's our family's favourite and pretty easy to make.



Chocolate Chip Cookies


Ingredients

1/3 cup caster sugar 1 ¼ cup plain flour

1/3 cup brown sugar ½ teaspoon bicarbonate of soda

125g softened butter ¼ teaspoon salt

1 egg 185g chocolate chips

½ teaspoon vanilla essence



Method

Set the oven to 190 C. Beat the butter with both lots of sugar in a mixing bowl until it has a creamy texture.

Break the egg into the bowl and beat it into the mixture until smooth. Then add the vanilla essence and mix it in.

Add the flour, salt and bicarbonate of soda to the mixture a little at a time and stir everything together well.

Now add the chocolate chips and stir them in until they are evenly spread through the biscuit mixture.

Butter the baking trays and spoon small mounds of the mixture onto them (using a teaspoon),leaving quite big spaces between the mounds.

Bake the biscuits for 10 to 12 minutes until they are a golden brown colour, then move them onto a wire rack to cool.

Woah! I am subject to feelings of guilt with the best of people, but do NOT go down that path. There is no reason to think that is the case and you have been, and continue to be the most wonderful chicken-Mum.

I disagree with the premise that you ruined Peggy's liver. I'm not letting that stand.

Obviously you blame yourself. That's silly. You can't know what caused this to develop. This could have been genetic and been there all along. It's not like Peggy doesn't have any other genetic medical issues. There is no way to be certain. I know there is a theory that Peggy just ate the fat parts of the chicken feed. If that is true, how is that your fault? Peggy chose to eat the fatty parts. No other hen just ate the fatty parts. Did you only feed Peggy the fatty granules? Of course not!

You did the best possible for Peggy. You identified the problems and got her great care. If I had Peggy, she would likely not be alive today. I could not get her the care or have figured out what was wrong with her myself. She is truly blessed to have you as her checkeneer.

I need you to believe this in your heart.

Good evening folks

I have a little question.
Peoples thoughts on mealworms as a treat (dried vs live)?
And should I wait until Snow and Belle are a bit older than 10 weeks before I introduce things like this?

I tend to do dried for 2 reasons:

I can get a really, really big bag of the things which lasts for ages
I hate handling the live worms if I'm honest.

You can grow & harvest your own if you are into that sort of thing. @Kris5902 can help you out with that.

I asked a similar question recently & the general consensus was yes ~ just remember they're a treat & don't go overboard with the treats.​

As Jeannie said, just remember they are treats. Make sure the birds have access to small rocks, I provide crushed granite. I also give them to my chicks on about day 3.

As Jeannie said, just remember they are treats. Make sure the birds have access to small rocks, I provide crushed granite. I also give them to my chicks on about day 3.

Our path all around the back of house is crushed rock so they scour that during their range and find ones that suit for aiding digestion thanks though, I’ll keep an eye out and make sure they are foraging and getting enough if not I’ll look at the granite option for sure!

Good idea. I'll think about it.

The laundry is in an outhouse. It gets quite warm in there so I think clothes on a ceiling mounted airer will dry quickly even though they're not in direct sunshine.

I was thinking of something like this but seven laths deep.
