To add to the confusion I did some research & the 2 species are so closely related some Bottlebrush are now melaleucas & vicky~verka. I am no wiser.I nipped out and took a photo of my melaleuca.
As you can see, the bark is different to the one I pulled off the web. It looks a bit more "papery" but is actually quite hard and tough.

The flowers are not at their best but I think they are the same.

They likely did. Some of mine will stay out in the rain, Aurora, Phyllis, and Sydney don't care about rain. Lilly just goes to bed early.They put themselves to bed already. I guess they knew the rain would persist?
