It's my second encounter with EYP and last time we were looking at clearing the infection then a hysterectomy. I daresay that's on the cards for Joyce if the infection clears.

I'm sorry I did not get right back on the dosing. Acetaminophen toxicity in chickens seems to be overblown. I just did a literature search on it along @RoyalChick. We came up with a recommended dosing on my thread. I will try to find it.

No, it's not the same. Acetaminophen is potentially lethally toxic to chickens at a very small dose, it has been cleared for use recently, but you must be extremely careful with the amount. I gave some to Brune knowing she was dying. Let me just check on the dosage.

I will be curious to see what your dosing is. I would like to compare it to what RC and I came up with.

10mg/kg I can do.

1mg/kg was going to be hit and miss.

Honestly I'm not sure, I scribbled the dosage in a corner. I'll take some time today to try to track back what source I used. 10mg does seem more likely.

I had 1000 mg tabs so I just scraped of the tiniest pinch I could manage thinking I would never do that with a chicken that had just a temporary illness, and it had a quick effect on her.

I've given her a dose of 7mg on cheese, which she thoroughly enjoyed. If that's a mortal overdose, at least she will have died from cheese treat, which must be a good thing from a chicken's perspective surely.

However, so far all I can say is that she was so thrilled about cheese, she chased it with a snack of pellets and a nice drink of linco-water. She's back in penguin pose again but possibly there hasn't been enough time for the paracetamol to work.

She's quite old for a hybrid layer, maybe 3 years? I'm not surprised her reproductive system is trying to kill her. But at least she's had a cruelty-free life, first up on the river bank with my aunty's friends and recently at my place where she's had the pleasure of dominating all the other hens and being hypnotised by the washing machine.

3 is very young for any other type of chicken.

I'm having an eventful day of chickening. Look what I found...

I have no idea how long they've been there or who laid them.

They're quite dirty, so I guess they've been there for a while!

If they float in water, they're too old. Let's see.

Every single one sunk to the bottom. Someone's back on the lay. I wonder who? Clearly, not Peggy or Joyce. Now they're clean, I can rule out Mary, Ivy, and Edie. That leaves Janet, Christa, and Katie as the likeliest suspects.

I guess I'll be having home-laid eggs for breakfast on Saturday!

I think I might put the red marauders in the big basket and bring them into the sleepout overnight until Joyce's EYP resolves one way or the other. I have a feeling she'll do better if she's not too cold.

Edit. After 10-15 minutes of inspections, they hopped in of their own accord.

That's right Joycey, sleep in the basket tonight please.

I waited another 10 minutes until they were fully settled then I shut the lid and put them on a shelf in the sleepout for the night.
