MJ's little flock

We're back from the vet and we cut the egg. There was a section that might once have been a yolk. It was mostly solidified pus.

We're starting with treatment targetting bacteria. It's a course of Lincospectin which the whole flock will have. It'll be good for Janet to have a top up.

Mark's away at present, so we saw Dr Sonia, who said weight loss follows from any sickness, because healing burns up energy.

I guess Christa was rather hungry when she got home because she almost climbed into one of the treadle feeders!

And earlier, Ivy thought it might be a good idea to look for a nest on the tankstand.

Is lincospectin the usual wide spectrum antibiotics where you live ?
Whatever she has, she herself doesn't seem to be too impacted or in pain!

Yes, it's a soluble broad spectrum with no egg withholding period. It'll go in the water until there's none left, then I'll switch to probiotics formulated for poultry in the water for a week.

Sometimes a course of linco is followed by a course of clavulox, usually by injection, but it can also be ingested. This time, I doubt Christa will need clavulox. Apart from being a little lean, she doesn't appear to be unwell at all, and I've been spying on her for a week.

The vets are limited in what they can prescribe and how much and how often, because of regulations aiming to curtail the development of superbugs.

Hope I'm not butting in too much, but just wanted to share that G-man and Bela have got girl friends now!
They are my two golden Cuckoo marans, and neither really fitted in very well in the main flock.
So when one escaped into their pen, and seemed very happy there, I thought why not?!

There are so often sad chicken news on BYC that it's just wonderful to hear about these two ! I hope they are not too "eager" with the girls 😉.
