The hens have been given a gift of left over turf rolls! 3 of them! They'll enjoy pulling those apart and eating them

What is it ? When I try to look up the meaning I find lots of things... that don't make sense in regard to hens eating them .

Turf is a bit of soil with grass - the roots of the grass hold it together and it can be rolled like carpet. Can be purchased in squares or rolls.
Like this (although that might be artificial - not sure).
