Moderator Account Accessed By 3rd Party

Any idea if we're ever going to get our mod back? (I heard it was Kathy's account??) We love all our mods and it would be a shame if someone couldn't use BYC anymore through no fault of their own.
The password was reset, so she now has a new password and has probably enabled 2FA as well. There would be no reason to permanently disable the account, forcing a password reset is trivial.

This is exactly what I thought! Why, of all the forums on the internet, would anyone want to hack a chicken-keeping forum?
Even if someone was doing it for entertainment... why a chicken forum of all places? I find it to be pretty funny.

Maybe they are a member here, and saw it as an opportunity to have some fun? I found this website when doing a simple google search. Somebody may of also done the same thing.

How in the world would someone be able to access her password?
All it takes is for her to click a link on a s41t site somewhere on the net, it installs a keystroke logger on her computer, she logs in, they got her password, now the tardlings can have their fun at her expense.

Her account DID get hacked, it was NOT a WAG at her password. I can almost guaranTEE there is some crap on her computer, she would be very smart to thoroughly scan that thing or re install to be honest. If they got this one, god only knows what others are compromised. Banks, Credit Cards, etc etc.

It's possible that the same username and password was used on another site that was compromised. Also possible that it was the email linked to the account, which could have been used to execute a password change on BYC.

The scenario I mentioned above seems far more likely than that.

Has BYC ever been hacked like this before? Or maybe had an even bigger hack? I'd assume so, I'm just kinda fascinated by these kinds of stories lol.
Other than the April Fool’s prank of 2008, no. And it's very unlikely that it happen again, don't worry.
