I have a Welsummer hen laying on eggs that are supposed to hatch in a week or less. I live in Michigan and it’s currently VERY cold and snowy, I’m scared that if the chicks hatch while I’m away they might fall out of the nesting box and just freeze. I have a little tent set up with food, water, and bedding for her and her chicks when they hatch (It’s inside in the warmthhh lol) Is it okay for me to take her inside with the eggs and get her set up for their hatching? Or will that just throw her off and make her not wanna lay on them anymore? I’m just worried for the chick(s) safety. :confused::oops:

I move mine all the time. My Silkie started in a nest box and I moved her into a crate. She is being moved again into my garage Brooder today because she is due to hatch on the 7th and it's really cold here. I have a heat lamp set up over the feed and water so the Chicks won't freeze when they come out to eat and drink.

I would probably move them.
Good luck!:thumbsup:highfive::highfive:

I had a broody sitting on fake eggs for 3 weeks. We bought some chicks on a last minute decision to give to her to raise. We moved her to another location out of the coop before we gave her the chicks. She stayed on nest, and did a great job raising the chicks. Same chicken went broody again, we moved her after a week as we considered giving her eggs to sit on. She did not take well to being moved, would not stay on nest for long periods, and within several days had lost her broodiness.

Since you are so close to the hatch, I’d be more tempted to raise the nest box barrier to keep chicks inside, and move them if necessary after they all hatch.

Good luck!

Update: One has hatched! It has really big feet so it kinda looks like a penguin when it walks :p
