I left the chicks out until late last night and they did fine! We brought them in just because the coop isn't fully secure. Everything takes longer than I think it will :he

When we brought them in it was about 48 degrees and 3 were roosting together and 6 were cuddled together under the roost. So they figured out how to stay warm! :celebrate

It's 40 degrees out there now and we just put them back out with feed and water!

Hard not to worry, but they are tougher than we think. The way I handled it was thinking back in the days of no electric and homes only heated with a fireplace. Chickens survived in those days.
Remember that they need at least 4 Sq ft per bird in the coop and at least 10 Sq ft per bird in the run. Over crowded birds are unhappy birds.

True!

Yeah, the coop is not big enough.. it was just big enough for 7 with the added nesting boxes. Thanks to chicken math we ended up with 9, one of the extras being a brahma :th

So, first is weatherproofing and securing, because at their size now it's fine. Then this fall and winter I'll be working on expanding and/or just buying or building a new coop.
