Muscovy keepers share your pics!

I know I've read that but seeing the size difference...WOW. I've had the drake going on two weeks now and the hens just one week. Do you think it's ok to put them in together now? Or with the other ducks??

Yes I would put them together now and other ducks in there should be fine also, As others have stated they will work out the pecking order. All of my livestock lives together once everyone knows their place it's a nice cohesive community around here, except for the occasional hissy fit from those hateful guineas LOL
I have never in all these years clipped any duck wings (my drakes couldn't get off the ground if they tried

) The only wings I ever clip are pheasants

Hang in there. She will probably make it. I had a local dog take a bite out of one of my Pekin ducks, it was so bad you could move the wing and see down into the breast, terrible!! I put hydrogen peroxide on it (I bet that felt good!!) and Neosporin on it and kept her separated in a smaller cage inside the duck's large enclosure. This way the other ducks didn't forget about her, they were with her each night. I did this for about 2 weeks, released her and everything was like normal. I would have never thought that duck would have made it!

Good luck!
It's amazing what they can survive with just a little cleaning and tending from us.

I clipped my Muscovy hens when they first arrived. They get out of their pen all the time by going under and they never wander more than 20 feet. Now my Guineas I have to clip or they roost in trees and get slaughtered by owls. If I keep them clipped, they roost in a dog kennel I have set up for them. Then I lock it up every night.

A few have been going up about 20 feet and I have had a hard time catching them. At least I can always get them back to their run when they get out. They go back in pretty willingly.

I have never clipped my male Muscovy's. I was told it is hard for them to fly due to their weight and so far neither of mine have tried to.

We had a male who was exceptionally good at flying. He'd roost on our roof along with a couple of the girls... I think he was just showing off. So, we had a clipping party!! Everyone was invited and the only one who enjoyed it was the dogs. They sat back and watched the theatrics ;-) I think you're right though, at a certain point they seem to be a bit on the bottom heavy side to be flying.

Sorry, but that was just funny! Lol

Thank you. I'm so glad your duck recovered. I plan on putting her in a cage inside the chicken coop when I do put her back outside. I've been keeping her in the bath tub and putting her in the back yard some during the day.

@Ren2014 I am sorry about your hen but it is amazing how they can survive such horendous attacks. Chickens can be brutal.

As far as clipping your females that is up to you, I only clip my girls not my drake, but I don't want them flying down to the river down below us.
Thank you. It truly is amazing. This girl has skull and two veins or something that pumps up and down exposed. She's eating well and today she got out of the back yard and showed up at the coop for PM lock down.

I've decided to clip the girls. The drake was clipped when I got him but he's so big I just can't see him flying.

Thank you. Tomorrow is the day.

LOL, that's exactly what we are planning for tomorrow. I told my brother in law to bring his gloves for this party, lol

So any advice on getting my girls to nest? I want babies!!!!
I just leave it up to them, mine have lots of shaving and inside their houses they have stalls for privacy I have one getting close. Leaving their eggs too. Once one goes broody then all most likely will [it's catching] Take all the old ones if they have been in the nest 10days or longer. I mark mine with the date as laid to keep up with it.
