Muscovys

It's not like that, really, they mostly stay to areas surround their manmade ponds that ppl get all icky about running around on the sidewalks and stepping in poo. And these are subdivisions, basically 100s of houses crammed together with maybe a corner store at the entrance that are built around a park of some sort that probably has a pond, mini lake in it.
And ppl started dumping their ducks there and they started nesting and probably expanded their territory.
As Usual it is the humon's faults and the duck have to suffer for those… :sick
Part that gets me is that they just want to kill them, destroy the eggs, and nests - and your not allowed to consume them, you're to throw away the carcass.
That was the part that got me upset too! If you really have to kill those poor ducks, at least honor them by eating their meat. What a waste! Kids are starvin' in Japan…

Controlling Muscovy duck populations might involve administering contraception to the ducks, addling their eggs (treating them with certain substances or removing them from their nests so they won’t hatch) or even going so far as to euthanize the ducks. Addling and contraception are considered more humane population control methods than euthanization, even when the ducks are humanely euthanized.
For those who (like me thought that addling was a typo: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goose_egg_addling - i learned a new English word today, Thank you very much! :bow
It is illegal to treat Muscovy ducks cruelly, so harming them, their eggs or their nests in any way that does not comply with current regulations is a federal crime. It is also illegal to relocate these ducks, including releasing them into the wild; this is partly because Muscovy ducks have too much potential for interbreeding with other duck species or transmitting diseases to them.
That is another thing i don't understand: Muscovies are a native species to some parts of the southern U.S. They have (probably) migrated from Central America into the southern U.S. long before there was a U.S.A. It is actually more the mallards that are the invaders…

I understand the need for population control, I just don't understand killing any animal and not using it for food - basically encouraging killing for sport/fun of it - because if th ere y think that isn't going to happen - they're more naive then I am. so much of our population starving, food banks running out of food, money... same goes for carp - its actually good, just a pain to debone. But they're just killing and throwing away...
Exactly!

The reason for killing and not eating is because of the liability involved. These ducks are not tested for illnesses or kept in a controlled environment, they run around feral with other birds. So if someone ate one and got sick and died from something like West Nile or bird flu this way they don't have a case against the government because they were told not to eat it.

Being told not to and advised against are completely different though, adults should know that if they are advised against something and do it they have no one to blame but themselves. Being told not to because you'll get fined or jail time is not allowing natural selection take place hence over population of humans.

Muscovy ducks are native to Mexico and Central and South America. As such in the state of Texas they would be considered exotics. Exotics do not have a season, bag limits and may be taken by any legal method.

Being that they are not a native species in North America and do not a migratory flight paths the federal migratory bird act does not afford protection.

The legislation if it is actuall legislation and not fake news does not afford property owners more or less rights to take muscovy ducks than they had before.
