Sad part is it's humans fault to begin with. When I give away ducks eggs Muscovy or my Runner I always shake them real good so I Know no one is going to hatch them and maybe eventually dump them somewhere. I only give away eggs for eating. In Ocala Florida one year they round up all the Muscovy ducks at a park and killed them all, rescue groups wanted to come in but they wouldn't let them. My Muscovy drake doesn't even mate with my Mallard derived ducks.

That's awful! My muscovy doesn't even want anything to do with my Pekin. She just hangs around by herself most of the time and minds her own business.

When I bought my Muscovy the breeder wanted me to free range it... I told her that I have a fenced in area thats 7000 sq ft and she almost didn't want to sell to me because I wasn't free ranging. I wanted to tell her that breeders like her are the reason why Muscovy get killed because they tell people that they have to free-range them which isn't true!

It's not like that, really, they mostly stay to areas surround their manmade ponds that ppl get all icky about running around on the sidewalks and stepping in poo. And these are subdivisions, basically 100s of houses crammed together with maybe a corner store at the entrance that are built around a park of some sort that probably has a pond, mini lake in it.
And ppl started dumping their ducks there and they started nesting and probably expanded their territory.

Part that gets me is that they just want to kill them, destroy the eggs, and nests - and your not allowed to consume them, you're to throw away the carcass.

I think this maybe for Florida or it might be federal... I'm to tired to triple check.

It is illegal to treat Muscovy ducks cruelly, so harming them, their eggs or their nests in any way that does not comply with current regulations is a federal crime. It is also illegal to relocate these ducks, including releasing them into the wild; this is partly because Muscovy ducks have too much potential for interbreeding with other duck species or transmitting diseases to them.

We feel bad because we know ducks on a personal level, it would take hundreds of thousands of dollars and man hours to administer birth controll and proper controll

Then we could argue why the money isnt spent on hungry families and fixing roads. The only thing we can do as indeviduals is not let ducks, or any pets into the wild and keep people educated

But they're not letting you catch them to keep them either unless you are relocating them to one of the 3 counties that they are protected in. They want you to just kill them AND not feed them... :/

There are millions of them running around down here.
There is no way anyone could rescue/collect all of them just from ONE of our local ponds.

I am going to attempt to count the ones at my pond today.
I'll get a video when I drive by.

This is a part that frustrates me because it always takes a few people to ruin it for everyone else!

People buy cute little ducklings because they're cute and then they don't realize that they turn into pigs with wings. Then they think that dumping them at a local pond is going to help the situation but all they are doing is ruining it for everyone else because this is what happens

These type of things make me so angry! On one hand I don't want the ducks to be killed... On the other hand I think the people should be charged for dumping them!

It's a shame the Muscovy Duck has reached pest status. It's wonderful that they are able to adapt and survive without human intervention.
It's just shame people won't take the same attitude with cats and dogs.

I have a lot of feral cats that people dump next door. They drive me crazy, but I try to deal with it. I also have wonderful neighbors who have free range dogs that ruin a lot of my fencing I just keep my mouth shut. Nothing I've done works that includes involving animal control. I gave up basically!

There was short period here where I live when farmers and smallholders got so fed up with domestic dogs harassing and sometimes killing their livestock they shot them on sight.
I though about taking up eating dog.

I take it you don't eat your ducks or chickens if you have any.
If I limited my meat consumption to animals that ate 'nice' things I wouldn't eat meat.

I understand the need for population control, I just don't understand killing any animal and not using it for food - basically encouraging killing for sport/fun of it - because if th ere y think that isn't going to happen - they're more naive then I am. so much of our population starving, food banks running out of food, money... same goes for carp - its actually good, just a pain to debone. But they're just killing and throwing away...
